Not mine of course, but Freddie Mercury's 60th. Those of you that know me in real life (and anyone who is an avid icon spotter) will know that I'm a big Queen fan. Huge is a better word. Thus I've seen We Will Rock You three times, and went to see Queen twice on their tour last year. I also bought a limited edition book for over £200 on Queen. So today is an odd day. Part of me really wishes I was in London at the Dominion Theatre watching a special performance of We Will Rock You (almost certainly with Rog and Brian on stage). Another part carries on thinking this is just any other day. But there is one part of me that keeps coming back to Freddie. Not in a morbid way (although I have mourned him in my time) but more as a what if. A fruitless wish that he was still making music and mincing around. Strange as it may sound, Queen were my teenage angst band, and beyond. They were/are my Nirvana, or Manics, or whoever else you are so passionate about. And Freddie was such a big part of that. One of the highlights of seeing Queen live was when the band played live over a live recording of Freddie for Bohemian Rhapsody. It felt right.

So do one thing today - listen to some Queen. I don't think anyone doesn't have a song they like. Put it on, turn it up, celebrate one of the best musicians and singers ever.
