Is gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks or The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on Nintendo DS? I want to get them but fear it will be awkward.
The gameplay is fun/okay, but it heavily uses the stylus (for moving, attacking, choosing items, etc) so if that isn't your style, you might not like it. The stories and characters are cute though, so that might help balance it out?
I adjusted to the gameplay style pretty quickly, but playing for a long time hurt my hand that was holding the ds. ^^; But maybe the DSlites/etcs don't have that issue.
I prefer the gameplay of Phantom Hourglass over Spirit Tracks.
In terms of overall map, Hourglass you have the open seas, islands, and easy to get to warp points. Tracks you are stringent to tracks, avoiding instant-death trains (kind of like Pac-Man but longer to maneuver), making deliveries in timely (and undamaging) matters, annoying passengers, and warp portals you need to go to and pass through to get from A to B.
The DS controls are good but have to get used to. Both have the usual but also cool unique items and weaponry. Depending on your experience with Zelda games, both games promote wireless trading of ship/train parts to earn more ship/train health if need be. Either game is beatable, but will be hard to complete (i.e. get all treasures, heart containers, etc.) unless you have a lot of patience and a tolerable DS.
You may like Phantom Hourglass but not as much as Wind Waker if you enjoyed that. More patience is necessary for Spirit Tracks IMO.
I like the controls for both games. I think the touch screen works really well, for the most part. It's really nice to be able to draw stuff on maps. Sometimes though if you want to walk really slowly or if you want to cut something by tapping it, it might take a few tries...
The gameplay is alright. It is awkward at first. I thought Spirit Tracks was the better of the two games. I just finished Okamiden and I liked that far more than both Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass.
