A quick update before I get completely swept away by work. We got back from Paris yesterday evening and it was a fab and muchly needed break. That's an interestingly scary photo of the Metro station being propped up!

That's part of the Bastille Metro station which is currently being refurbished. It certainly looks a lot like a cave or mine at the moment and I wish we had taken more photos of it. What looks like a prop is actually a platform to do work on the ceiling so it's not quite as scary as it looks in the photo.

I was tempted by the Versailles exhibition. I remember seeing that artist's work at the Serpentine Gallery a few years back and loved it; looks so surreal to see such kitsch artwork displayed amongst the grandeur of Versailles.

Not quite sure whether I really liked the crude rococo glitz of the big Versailles Chateau or Takashi Murakami's art. However, together these elements worked in a really bizarre way and I am glad I went to see it. A bit like seeing new New Japanese Kitsch and Old French Kitsch in an epic battle for supremacy.

The exhibition about science and its connections to Versailles and the French kings in the palace was excellent as well.

As far as architecture and decoration in Versailles goes, I really prefer the Grand Trianon and (even more) the Petite Trianon to the big palace.

The photo looking up through the middle of the Eiffle tower is great and the flying Santa made me smile. looks like you had a great trip.
