[Fic] Hear my Heart, Chapter Seven

Kazuya woke up as soon as he heard a thump on the window. He glanced at the clock and saw the time, 5:30pm. “Wow I slept the whole day,” he said as he sat up.

“Where’d nii-chan go?” he stood up and went out of his room, calling Pi’s name but there was no response. He went down to the kitchen and saw the paper that Pi left.

Kazu,

I’ll just buy some food for us. I’ll be back in an hour or so. Just watch TV or go to sleep again. Okay?

Kazuya read the letter silently then placed it on the table again, he went to the refrigerator and drank some cold milk. He heard the door click and sprung open he looked at the door’s direction and saw his brother and Jin.

EH? What is he doing here? Kazuya said in his mind as he went to them and closed the door as soon as the two entered.

“Etto~ nii-chan…you bought a lot this time…” Kazuya looked at the plastic bags that they were carrying and he counted six of them.

“I didn’t buy all of this. Jin did.” Pi pointed Jin as he settled the bags on the kitchen table as Jin gave a smile and placed his bags as well.

“hounto? But nii-chan… we can’t pay Jin-chan” He said in a worried tone.

“You don’t have to pay me. It’s okay.” He said with a smile.

“e-eh….a-arigatou~!” Kazuya bowed.

“Ma~ see Pi. He’s happy.” Jin teased.

“Yeah, yeah. You’re right I’m wrong. I get it.” Pi removed the food they bought from the plastic bag and placed it inside the refrigerator.

“Hey hey. Don’t put the meat inside. I’ll cook it tonight.” Jin said.

“Oh. Sorry.” Pi placed the meat at the table and looked at Kazuya. “Hey, what’s wrong?” Jin looked at Pi then Kazuya. Both waited for the younger one’s reply but there was silence.

“Kazu?” Pi said again.

“Kazuya?” Jin also said but there wasn’t any reply, again. Pi looked at Jin and the older looked back at him too.

“He’s not ignoring us, is he?” Jin asked and Pi shrugged, “I’ve been noticing this a few weeks before our dad left.”

“uhm…I’m not a doctor but…I think he’s loosing his hearing or something…” Jin said, “I think you should go to the doctor and have him checked.” He continued and Pi glared at him.

“Are you kidding me? We don’t have money Jin.” Pi said sharply.

“Then I’ll go with you. I’ll pay for it.” Jin looked at Pi then at Kazuya. “I thought you love him and you’ll do everything for him?” Jin asked. Pi sighed and nodded. “Fine. We’ll go…” Pi knocked the table and Kazuya looked at him.

“Were you talking to me? Sorry I didn’t hear you.” The latter pouted.

“We’re going to the doctor with Jin tomorrow.” Pi said quickly.

“Huh?”

“You’re going to the doctor tomorrow, Kazuya.” Jin said as he dragged Pi to their sink.

“EH? I’m not sick!” Kazuya shrieked.

“Good think he heard it.” Pi whispered and Jin chuckled.

“Mou~ nii-chan~ are you serious? But we-we don’t have money right?” Kazuya stood up and went to Pi with his puppy eyes.

Damn~ so cute~! Jin said in his mind.

“Nii-chaan~” Kazuya whined again.

“We’re going and that’s final, Kazu Now go to the living room first, we’ll cook.” Pi said coldly and Kazuya went to the living room quiet.

“Did you just do what I think you did?” Jin asked and Pi ignored him.

While they were cooking, Jin looks at the living room secretly while Pi was looking away.

Should I go to him and cheer him up or I stay here looking at him? Jin said in his mind and sighed. After they were done cooking, Pi prepared the food, the bowls and the chopsticks.

“Do you want me to call him?” Jin asked again and Pi nodded. Jin smiled as he turned his back on Pi and walked to Kazuya. He saw the younger boy watching TV and seating at the end of the couch.

“Hey… dinner’s ready.” Jin smiled but Kazuya just looked at him, shut the TV, stood up and went to the kitchen while Jin followed. The meal was quiet. Jin didn’t expect that if either one of them is mad, they won’t talk until someone say something exciting or funny. Jin looked at the brothers and smiled. Pi looked at him and said, “Why the heck are you smiling? There’s nothing funny.”  Jin just kept on smiling and it just freaked Pi. “Dude. Did you take your medicines already? You look like as serial killer.” Pi said seriously but the two laughed and looked at each other.

He’s so cute~! Jin said in his mind and Kazuya smiled at him.

For him it was the best thing that happened to him. He saw Kazuya’s sweet smile and it wasn’t just a smile. It was for him only. Pi coughed and the two looked at them.

So much for ruining the moment… Jin said in his mind again. “Yes?”

“Are you flirting with my brother?” he glared at him.

“Me? Flirting?! Heck NO! fyi I’m straight.” Jin defended. Erm… I think? He said in his mind again.

“Kazu. Go upstairs and sleep already.” Pi ordered, “and you, go home.” He continued while he fixed the plates. Kazuya stood up and so did Jin, both looked at each other and said, “what’s wrong with him?” the two laughed and looked at Pi again.

“I mean it.” He said coldly and Kazuya nodded and gave another smile to Jin before he left. Jin stood there for a couple of seconds then went to the leaving room and got his stuff. Before leaving he said his goodnight to Pi but the latter didn’t respond so he went out of the house already.

“Mou~ nii-chan I really don’t want to go! The-they might do something to me!” Kazuya pleaded again the next day.

“There’s nothing we could do, we’re meeting Jin there and for all I know he’s waiting for us already.” Pi said as he looked at the watch. “C’mon, faster Kazuya.” He continued.

When they reached the hospital they met Jin at the entrance where he sat on the plastic chairs, wearing his dark black shades and his music on too loud that when you sit or stay close to him, you’ll hear every word the singer is singing. He was staring into space and sort of worried about what will happen today. Hearing Kazuya complaining to his brother, hearing the latter’s cry and the doctor’s remarks to them after the check up. A question entered into his head, “Why should this happen to him? There are a lot of people in the world that are selfish, seeing him he’s so calm and so humble. Why him?” he was interrupted when Pi pulled his earphones from his ear and looked at him.

“Oh, sorry. I was into the music…” Jin lied and turned his ipod off and stood up to fix his shirt and pants. “Lets go? I bet sensei’s there already.” Pi nodded and Jin guided the two to his trusted doctor. When they were walking, Jin sneaked a peek from his shades to see how Kazuya was doing. Luckily he was also wearing a cap and the shades were dark and no one could figure out if he was looking at someone especially Kazuya. The boy looked scared and pale as usual and a bit freaked out. Jin looked back and realized that they’ve walked passed the room already.

“uwa~ matte.” Jin stopped in the middle of the hallway while Pi and Kazuya looked back.

“Why?” asked Pi.

“Are we going home already?” Kazuya said with his hopes up and it made Jin smile.

“Sorry but we missed the room. I guess I’m spacing out again. Should we go back?” Pi walked back again while Kazuya whispered an “eeeeh” silently while following his brother and Jin. They reached the office, knocked three times and the door opened. They were welcomed by a this young doctor about 25 years old and she ordered the three to sit down for a while and took a new recording sheet for her new patient.

“Who is it now Jin-kun?” The doctor sat on her chair and placed the recording sheet on her table and took out her pen.

“Ah, its this little man here. He’s Kazuya.” Jin said calmly.

“What hurts Kazu-kun?” she asked sweetly and Pi raised a brow.

“N-nothing hurts…” he whispered.

“I wont be able to here you if you answer like that…”

“He can’t here that much.” Pi answered right away and it made the doctor look at him and back to her new patient.

“Is it true Kazu-kun?” she asked again but the latter only shrugged.

“Well then, we have to take tests for this. Is it okay if we start now?” he asked the two men and they looked at each other.

“It’s okay for me.” Jin answered.

“I guess its fine for me also… as long as he’ll be okay.” Pi said.

“Okay then. Kazu come with me, we’ll go to the testing area.” The doctor ordered him. He hesitated first, but when he saw his older brother’s look, he followed right away to the room.

“This better work or else you’re just wasting money on us.”

“Even if this doesn’t work and I waste money, at least I know and you know that your brother’s alright.”

After awhile, the two came back with their straight face.

“Sensei, what’s the matter?” Jin asked politely. The doctor sat down on her chair and looked at him while Kazuya sat on Pi’s lap.

“What happened to this boy?”

“Huh?”

“What happened to him?” she said again.

“Well uhm…” Pi ignored the look of the doctor and focused on his grip with Kazuya.

“You have to tell Pi, or else she won’t help us.” Jin said.

“You see Kazuya is adopted. My mom really loves him and I guess my dad didn’t. When she passed away, my dad was taking care of us. I didn’t actually know what he did to him, sometimes I see him on the floor, I ask him if he’s okay but he always say that he’s okay and he’s just clumsy.” The doctor nodded and wrote something on a piece of paper.

“Did he have any ear irritations lately?” She asked again.

What is this, CSI? Pi said in his head then he looked at Kazuya. The boy was silent, he didn’t even bother look at the three of them.

“No.” Pi replied. Jin took Kazuya’s hands and caressed it, trying to calm the latter’s nerves down. Kazuya looked at him and smiled.

“Have he got any sickness lately?”

“Hmm… there was one time. A few weeks before our dad left. He was having chills and was really sick.”

“Did you consult a doctor about it?” Pi sighed and mumbled a soft “no.”

“What?! You should have!” Jin exclaimed and the doctor looked at him in shut up-you’re-not-the-doctor way. And he did shut up.

“Well you see, when I checked upon Kazuya here, everything was okay, except for his ears. Since you said he had encounters with your dad, I assume he was beating him up. And that’s not a good sign. Plus, you also said when he left a few weeks later, he got a cold.” She then looked at Kazuya and tapped his shoulder.

“Kazuya, when you were sick, did you ear hurt or something?” she asked and the teenager and he sighed and nodded.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Pi asked him and Kazuya stood up and looked at them., “I didn’t want you to get another job… that’s why I didn’t tell you. And I thought it wouldn’t have any side effects when I get well…”

“Oh Kazuya….” Pi stood up and hugged him tight.

“What can we do sensei?” Jin asked, stopping himself from crying.

“Well, we can’t treat it anymore but I suggest you buy hearing aids for him so that he can hear you fully again.” The doctor concluded.

Argh… well, I don’t have a choice but to find another job that actually pays me more than my current salary… Pi said in his mind.

A/N: trying to put a lot of Akame moments in it but its so hard with Pi around. Haha xD Hmm, seems like I only got a few readers last chapter oh well, I tried my best. So uhm, this might be a great turning point in the story...or is it the next chapter? Seems like you guys have to find out when I post chapter 8 sometime next week! :D It made me emotional while writing that chapter. :( Well anyways, Comments are loved as always!
