“Are you there?”
Careful hands reach out with a soft sigh, sliding under the nearest panel to adjust the fine-tuned settings. He tries again.
“Can you hear me, OHNO?”
OHNO stirs with a slight whir as his mechanics start up for the first time. He straightens from his slumped position against the table. The man gives an almost silent cheer, glad to finally see all his hard work finally come to fruition.
OHNO smiles absently at the human standing in front of him. He knew the man wasn’t like himself. The man was a living, breathing organism. OHNO knows that he, himself, is not.
“OHNO, can you stand up for me?”
OHNO looks down at his legs, wondering when he got those. He flexes the left first, then the right, seeming to glide as he steps away from the table. He stares at the man, somehow pleased when he looks at OHNO with pride in his smile.
“You’re… Jun?”
Jun nods, taking the time to walk around OHNO, his smile never fading.
“I’m Jun. I’m the one who made you.”
“Ah.” Soft spoken, Jun notes mentally, and not much to say. He’ll be perfect.

“Didya finish him, MatsuJun? Can I talk with him? Can I play with him?”
“Yes, no, and no,” Jun smirks as Aiba frowned back at him. “You know he’s not human, so there’s no point in you talking with him right now.”
“Well then, how’re you gonna test him?”
“Nino.”
Aiba’s mouth hangs open for a few moments before Jun closes it for him. Jun goes about tidying up the lab, the chaos of activating OHNO for the first time having put it into a most unsanitary state. Jun can’t tolerate this.
He turns back to Aiba, his mouth still hanging open. He closes it with one finger, only for Aiba to burst out laughing almost immediately.
“Nino!? Nino’s going to be the one to test OHNO? Nino’s too smart, he’d figure out in a moment,” Aiba snaps his fingers, “Just like that.”
“That’s the point though, Masaki. Nino is smart. And observant. If OHNO can fool Nino into thinking he’s human, then that’s a huge success for us and this program.” Jun turns around, admiring OHNO, watching as he, in a seemingly distracted manner, picks up various instruments, turning them over and over. He turns back to Aiba, an excited gleam in his eye.
“Wanna be there when Nino first meets him?”
**************
Jun lets out a soft sigh as he watches Nino and OHNO stare at each other over the kitchen table. Well, more like OHNO stare at Nino as he plays his DS. Jun nudges Aiba from where he’s sitting down beside him on the couch, picking up a cookie from the coffee table to munch on.
“Have they said anything to each other?”
Aiba shakes his head, confirming Jun’s suspicions, still scribbling away in his observatory notebook. Jun wonders what he could possibly be writing before turning to back to the action. Jun clears his throat and speaks a bit louder so that Nino can hear him over his game’s background music.
“Nino, I brought him here because I thought you two would get along well. If you-”
“Shhh.” Nino’s fingers move rapidly for a few moments before setting the DS aside. He looks at OHNO for the first time properly.
“You know you’re interrupting me in the middle of my game, right? I am this close to this level’s boss.”
OHNO shakes his head, a slight smile playing on his lips.
Nino huffs in response, arms folding in front of his chest. “Jun, why the hell did you bring this guy around here?”
Jun smiles, glad that he and Aiba already prepared OHNO’s false backstory.
“I met him about a year ago when he was visiting the lab for a short business trip. We’ve kept in touch since then. When I found out he was being transferred to our lab, I told him that I’d help him get comfortable in his new hometown. And part of that comfort is have a network of friends, don’t you agree?” Jun smiles, mimicking Nino’s posture, his head tilted to the side.
“Why, do you not like OHNO, Nino?”
“I can’t really give an answer to that if I only just met the guy.” Nino’s eyes flicker back to OHNO, lingering on that stupid smile for a moment longer than he would’ve liked before returning his attention to Jun.
“Besides, even if he does need more friends, who’s to say that I want more? You two are more than enough,” Nino throws his hands up in exasperation.
Jun sighs and stands from the couch, jostling Aiba from his comfortable writing position. Aiba’s noise of surprise irritation does nothing to deter Jun from going to Nino’s side. Jun bends down, lowering himself to Nino’s level, locking eyes with him.
“Do it for me, Nino.” Jun stills his mouth, trying his hardest not to smile when he sees how Nino can’t resist Jun’s earnest pleas.
He finally releases that smile when Nino agrees with a grudging nod. Jun rests a hand on Nino’s shoulder, squeezing in thanks.
“You won’t regret it, Nino.”
**************
“I REGRET THIS ALREADY, JUN.”
Jun rolls his eyes behind his sunglasses, sliding them off to give Nino a proper look.
“Chill, Nino,” Jun watches as Nino clings to the railing, glaring daggers at OHNO. “We’ll be back at the dock in about 30 minutes.”
“Thirty minutes longer than necessary!”
Jun tries to ignore Aiba’s laughing behind him, knowing that if he showed any amusement towards Nino’s pain, he’ll get repaid for it in some unpleasant way in the future. Jun’s eyebrows almost fly off his face when he sees OHNO approach Nino and whisper something in his ear. Nino gives OHNO a suspicious look but nods all the same, taking OHNO’s offered hands. OHNO leads them both along the deck and then below.
In an attempt to not be seen, he follows quietly as OHNO takes Nino to a room with a small cot on it, helping him settle in. OHNO then starts to stroke Nino’s back, murmuring too softly for Jun to hear at this distance.
Jun’s more than a little confused when he sees Nino relaxing under OHNO’s soothing.
**************
Jun has long had a copy of Nino’s apartment key and isn’t afraid to use it. Especially now when he hasn’t seen OHNO in more than a few hours and, after calling for confirmation, knows that he isn’t with Aiba right now. (Aiba’s friend had mentioned wanting to meet Jun’s creation, but Jun wouldn’t allow it. He instead grants that friend the first news interview about it.)
All things are quiet in Nino’s apartment. Surprising, given that Nino’s shoes are thrown about his door entranceway, along with the only pair of OHNO’s shoes. Jun shuts the door quietly behind him and creeps further into the apartment. He stills suddenly at the low moan that sounds through Nino’s bedroom door.
Jun fights himself momentarily, having difficulty deciding whether or not he should go and investigate. Jun’s curiosity wins out and he walks right up to Nino’s bedroom door. He wants to knock, let them know he’s there in some way or manner, but he knows that this would disrupt an interaction thought to be unobserved by the two subjects.
The door opens slowly without a noise, allowing Jun to peek in on them. His eyes widen at the scene before him. OHNO on all fours on the bed, Nino kneeling behind him. Nino’s face was buried in a place that polite society didn’t usually discuss, hands holding tight on OHNO’s hips. Another moan leaves OHNO’s mouth, his hands clutching at the sheets underneath him.
A chuckle from Nino soon follows, his hand leaving OHNO’s ass and sliding up his back, lifting a panel there.
Jun decided he’s seen enough and makes a quick escape from the apartment. He has to tell Aiba of this.

“He knew the entire time, Aiba.”
“How could that possibly be, Jun? Your design was nearly flawless.”
“I walked in on them,” Jun sighs in frustration, hand covering his face momentarily. “He was adjusting his sensitivity settings.”
Aiba just blinks, not knowing how to respond to that. “It had to be OHNO who told him. I mean, his AI was perfect! Nearly human, in everything!”
“... Yeah. Yeah, let’s go with that,” Jun nods, choosing to believe in Aiba’s belief of his work.
“Let’s get started on Original Human Number Two, shall we?”
