Do I want to go through the hassle of international purchase and buy
this book?
Apparently, it only came out in Holland (in English and Dutch). It'll probably eventually come out in the US, but who knows when.
You see, here's the deal. Normally, I'd probably just suck it up and pay and deal and just get the book. I love MZD just that much. My budget may or may not be able to handle it, but I can be creative (one tends to not spend as much money when you realize you don't really smoke or drink too often anymore). But I own this story. Not in book form, but I do have the actual text.
A professor I had in undergrad is friends with MZD. For halloween (2003, I think), he gave her an autographed manuscript of this story. Since we were reading HoL for this class, she thought it would be nice to give us each a copy (it was a seminar with like, 10 people in it... on experimental fiction). If you're not familiar with MZD's work, HoL used colored typeface. house is in blue. There's a chapter in struck out red. etc. He does something with color in this story too, but it didn't come out in the xerox so we were supposed to get to see the master and copy the color in with colored pencil - I never got around to doing it and I didn't want to read it without the color so I still just have it lying around in one of my boxes - I may or may not have it with me in AZ. It helps that I got overwhelmed with other work and reading and forgot what leisure reading meant for a while. So I can't decide if I should just bite the bullet and get the holland release since I've wanted to read the damn story for over 2 years now, or just wait a couple years longer in case it just comes out here and actually go read the manuscript I have until then. But I know the color, and the layout and everything is going to be a big part of figuring this book out..... dammit! I cant decide.
*sigh*
I think I'll look for the manuscript and read it... then think about it again. yes... that should be what I do...
