With a very heavy heart, as of today, I am no longer a partner of, and no longer hold any official title or position with SlugFest Games, Inc. The company is still going very strong, so no worries there.
It almost seems to me that it is an.. irony (in that Alanis Morisette kinda way) that today everything is finalized. Aug 5 2010. I got married 15 years ago today. For the first time, at least. SlugFest was born in Klyph's house in March(ish) of 2004, less than a year after my first wife moved back to her childhood home in Syracuse, NY (without me). In many ways, SlugFest, and the good friends that made up the core, kept me on this side of sanity.
And everything that I am today can be directly contributed to my involvement with SlugFest. It was at a gaming convention in NJ (Dexcon) that I met Del. And that alone is enough to write chapters on how my life was changed in a very good way because of knowing him. And that led me to move down to MD, and fast forward - that's where we are today. And the so many experiences that I was afforded by either working in the booth demoing games, making connections and contacts within the gaming industry, and, heck, after the first Gencon remembering the wad of cash that we'd taken in, and literally laying it on the hotel bed and rolling in it.
SlugFest was an idea brought to life by some very talented game designers, with financial and logistical support being provided to round out our team. We were extremely lucky to have each other to get the ball rolling, as it were. Too many times you hear of small gaming shops fail because it's either too much of a financial burden, or it takes too much time to really make it work.
I am hopeful that I will still continue to be given the opportunity to work as a member of SFG's team in the future - in a reduced capacity, to be sure.
But as SlugFest was there for me when my life drastically changed, I'm ready for the next chapter.
Klyph, Gogo, Geoff (and Coleen), thank you.
