So I have a theory that's been percolating in my brain lately.

Over the last couple of years, I've been catching colds more often than I had in the past. And they've developed into something more serious a few times (not going to the hospital serious, but pnemonia serious).

There have been other variables - I'm now living in MD, where my allergies are at least twice as bad as they've ever been anywhere else, for instance.

But one thing that I can say for sure: when I worked for UBS in Stamford CT, we didn't get any sick days. Well, rather, there was no set amount of time that we could take off for being sick. We got normal vacation time, and, as long as it wasn't taken advantage of, unlimited sick time.

Where I'm working now, we have a set amount of PTO in addition to vacation time.

I'm (finally) starting to wonder that if I've got to juggle my time off isn't forcing me to go into work before I probably should. I know that 95% of employers out there have a set number of PTO days, and that UBS was in the minority. But could it be a better way of approaching employee's health?
