This could only happen at an inaka junior high school:
I`m chilling at my desk, doing the last cleaning up for the new ALT. Kyoto-sensei and the teachers for Brass Band were talking when a few students showed up. The student members of the Brass Band were getting ready for their morning practice, and could they talk to the teachers? Everyone disappears outside, and I think, oh well.
But it`s my last day and I`m curious, so I go outside too. Kyoto-sensei, the Brass Band teachers, and members of Brass Band were gathered around the payphone. Why? To tell the older sister of one of the band girls (no guys in band, wth?) to come to school.
One of my girls says, `Hallo, hallo`, which makes me laugh and say ganbare to her. They pass the phone around, telling this sister to not be sick and come to school. Kyoto-sensei yells, `Oide! Oide!` (Come here now!), which gets me laughing. Because no way in the U.S. would any vice-principal be calling a sick student to make her come to school, nor would teachers get to stand around and cajole her over the phone. XD;;; And they hollered hello at passing students. One student had this, `Who are these people talking to me?` look on her face. Things like embarassment are universal. :3
Most of the day was boring. I cleared junk out, I started making lesson plans. I ran into that student who got called by the teachers, too. She`s always one of the girls who tries hard to speak in English...but she`s also picked on a lot for being physically short and shuns everyone else. Half the time she`s `sick` is because she doesn`t want to be at school.
But she`s one of the few students who gave me a chance when I first came to the junior high. I stopped to talk with her. She admitted that she was sad to see me go. I said I was sad too--anyone would be sad to leave students who really do try. And watching them grow up from ichinensei to sannensei, it`s like watching a tree bloom, ya know? `My younger sister in shogakko, yoroshiku onegaishimasu,` she said. (Please teach my younger sister.) And she had to clarify that...her sister`s name is Yuuki, which is a common BOY`s name. I`m gonna miss you, Ayako!
So I`m starting my turn as the shogakko teacher. No class today, but when I asked about internet access at my school...they provided me with a laptop! This alone is made of so much win. ♥
Agenda tonight: Pirates of the Carribean 2! See you there,
shigeruhiko!
EDIT: Today is not made of win. ;_; A freaking thunderstorm scared the conductors or something of
shigeruhiko's train line, and ENDED ALL SERVICE FOR THE DAY. WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T GET TO SEE IT WITH US!!! D:
On the other hand, it meant that she wasn't stranded in Tsuyama with no way home. Don't worry, I got a PofC2 book for you!
And I would squee more about the movie--Norrington, I love you!!! ♥--except that I left my shogakko bag in Brigid's car...which is still with Brigid. Which leaves me screwed for youchiien tomorrow. ARgggggggh!
