Should probably be threatened with being thrown in front of a bus. >.<
I just finished a marathon of Candidate for Goddess, Lagoon Engine, and Lagoon Engine Einsatz today. LEE I had read in full before; CfG I had read about half of; LE I had only read a preview chapter for.
Candidate for Goddess raised quite a few interesting points, though they weren't TOO cliffhanger-esque. Until the last 20 or so pages, that is. When it's then hinted at that
Zero may not be human, and when Clay is told he's to become the new Observer--this revelation on the
very last page, no less!. My thing about Zero, though, is that we're told that he's probably a Zenoah (a "perfect body"; people in this 'verse are born with deformities by default because of the Crisis of the Systems, which have to be fixed with Atmic)--but this just means he's got no Atmic in him, and may not necessarily hint at his "human-ness" or lack thereof. And, if I'm getting this correctly, it's sort of hinted at that he could have been created as a genetic experiment, and that his "mother" actually isn't. And he's related to Hiead somehow, and both of them are related to Teela in some other way, and just really? You put this series on hiatus because it wasn't as popular as D.N.Angel? I'm still holding out hope that some freaking miracle will occur and Sugisaki will decide that this is the series she'll pick back up if/when D.N.Angel (pleasenomorehiatusesforthisone,okay?) finishes.
But I don't think that's gonna happen, because Lagoon Engine is still more popular that CfG. I adore Yen to pieces, though, so I'm okay with this. His getting all nervous over Ayato was too damn adorable...even if they are cousins. XD But Yen's made even more precious with his illness...speaking of which, the furthest I've gotten is to the first chapter of Volume 6, which I had to view as a preview on TokyoPop's site, and it ends with Yen collapsing because he didn't take his medicine (again). AUGH. I need to go to Borders soon and read it...anyway, the visions Yen (and also Jin, but not as often) has intrigues me. Because they're visions of
a person who looks just a little to much like
Sakis (also, looking at the gloved hand in the first and second pictures, you can tell when the design for Sakis as a character in Einsatz was finalized based on the sleeves, and this corresponds roughly to when it was being serialized, I think). AND Sakis saw what seemed to be a
vision of Jin when he landed in the Mearntsea Forest. Also, this actually has a
FREAKING COUNTERPART in Lagoon Engine! Just compare the clothes they're wearing! And the scenery Jin's looking at! And the very next pages of each! It's just so ridiculous! And this is interesting, because if I had read Lagoon Engine first (kind of like you were supposed to), I would have had no idea who this person was Yen was having dreams and visions of. But, because I read Einsatz first, I had a double-take-holy-shit moment when I read LE. And it was even BETTER when I went back to read Einsatz, because it somehow got even MORE AWESOME. I mean, it's a given LE and LEE are related, given their names, but how the fuck are they?!
So, this gets me to Lagoon Engine Einsatz, which is so damn detailed that had to do 4-6 page spreads of just information to explain the world to the (probably slightly confused) reader. From what I understand, the series was created for Newtype-USA...which sort of doesn't exist anymore. Which may mean the series will end up in a similar state to CfG. I'm hoping, though, that Sakis's relationship to the Ragun brothers (Yen in particular) will be explained if/when Sugisaki returns to LE (which tends to alternate with D.N.Angel in Monthly Asuka, depending on which series she's working on). Also, the idea of two rather distinctive series being involved in an intricate and very canon-to-both crossover event gets me super excited. They're probably parallel worlds...but they're probably related "genetically" as well. I mean, the brother's last name could have been taken from Lagoonaria (which is also Sakis's last name, which makes sense because he's a Scion of the royal family) in some capacity. Either way, I'm SUPER STOKED about the prospect of one of these two (probably LE) being continued and their connection being revealed.
Also, maybe I'm biased or basing this on a non-informed opinion, but please just leave Ascribe to Heaven alone and focus on series you started earlier and are better, Sugisaki!
In a related note, I found some music made for LEE. It was released as a bonus CD with the graphic novel, if I remember correctly. It's got two composed tracks on it, and I'm listening to them right now. I found it on a website after some diligent searching. The fandoms for these series are pretty small, which kind of depresses me. ;_;
