It's my perogative...

I can do what I want to do.

So, yeah...  The schedule to get that novel written...  I have a few days left to crank out chapter 9 and it ain't happenin' so far.  Time to change things up and light a fire under my ass.

To that end, I give you:

Outside the Fire

I've waffled over the 13 years this book has been in process on whether or not I think it ends up a Young Adult novel or a plain old grown-up one that starts with the main character as a kid.  I will warn you that this is obviously a work in progress, but I'm more determined than ever to finish the remaining outlined chapters before the end of the year, so with any luck, you don't have long to wait for the conclusion.

I've had the existing chapters beta'd to within an inch of their lives by more than one editor, so I posted the whole thing I have so far, linking chapters forward and all, in a new community.  I posted it in the hopes that even a couple of my f-list will read it at some point and maybe start some discussion over there that might get me excited to move forward again.  Don't feel obligated.  Even just posting it makes me want to write, so +1 point for bravery to creativity.

It defies easy description, but the first chapter throws you right into what you're getting, so I'll leave it at that.  The title refers to the Garth Brooks song of the same name, which sums up the point of the book better than I can.
