I think it could be the opposite. That the two lovers are blind to each other's true identities baecause of social expectation, title, and facades. Neither truly knows who the other is.
It represents the aspect of 2 people attracted to each other by the sense of smell and the deeper connection that exists that defys any visual interaction.
Either that, or these 2 people bought defective bondage masks and are both waiting at Walmart to return them. Something about a defective zipper.
I think it depicts how everyone, even in love tend to hide behind something. No one will ever show the person they love every facet of their being. It's protection, it's a safety net. Would the person you're in love with remain in love with you if they knew everything about you, every dark little secret? So for the sake of love and life we'll hide our true nature, maybe even hide it from ourselves just so that we can have passion, love, happiness.
I think if the artist wanted to depict that love is faceless, he or she would've simply wiped all identifying facial features instead of covering them, hiding them. The fact that they're bagged says to me that they're hiding from each other.
