Robots in disguise
Friday night I watched a 2 hour and 20 minute US military recruitment video that was apparently sponsored by General Motors. Beyond trying to sell me a GM car and then join the army, there was a subplot about alien robots from outer space who have the abillity to transform into earth vehicles and back.
The GM/US military angle aside, I very much enjoyed Transformers. Although again on the ciritcal side I do have to say that even for my ADHD brain, the scene flips in th beginning were crazy rapid. 10 minutes into the movie I was thinking that I was watching a trailer... The movie WAS a little goofier than I would have liked in some places, but overall I was impressed with the balance of action and non-action scenes, and the way the movie captured the feel of the old cartoon.
It was cool to have the original Optimus Prime voicing for the movie, and helped it to feel right. (And it was good that he got to do something other than play Eeyore...)
My only REAL complaint is that sometimes it was difficult to understand what was happening when the transformers were brawling. A number of them looked relatively similar and that made it hard to tell them apart.
All in all though, well done!
