Deep Ponderings...

I've been pondering lately. Off and on.

What, you ask?

The Final Fantasy series.

OK... OK... you can stop laughing...

[looks at watch]

You done yet?

OK... Anyway...

I haven't finish Final Fantasy12... Hell, I think I'm about halfway through. But, it seems in this one that no one is out to destroy the planet. Which is quite different when thought about.

Well, there is something in the game that could destroy the planet, but I don't think the main bad dude wants to do that.

Let's look into this. These are just the ones I play a lot. I could go back to the others, but I don't remember them as well as the following:

Final Fantasy IV (II in the states): Gomez is out to kill, kill, kill! (Poor misunderstood boy... Didn't get enough love!)

Final Fantasy VI (III in the states): Kefka is out to destroy all life on the planet. (He who's laugh is the freakiest thing I've heard, even if it was only a midi file!)

Final Fantasy VII: Sephiroth was out to destroy the world with a giant meteor because, mama's boy he was, he wanted to make Jenova happy. (Hums One Winged Angel and resists the urge to watch Advent Children again)

Final Fantasy VIII: Ultimecia was out to compact all time into one neat little package, stopping it all together. (I can't remember why... Immortality maybe? I still need to defeat that game.)

Final Fantasy IX: You've got two for the price of one! Gomez (Hey, I know that name!) out to kill all life and put the souls from another planet into the reincarnation mix instead, and Kuja, just out to kill. (I hate a guy who has better hair and make-up than me.)

Final Fantasy X: Well, there's Sin, who rampages around killing people and locations for the hell of it. Then, there's Seymour, who wants to kill everything on the planet. (Or, as I like to call him, "He who has way too a melodious voice" and "The rat bastard that won't die no matter what the hell I do to him. Grrrrr!")

And, that brings us to Final Fantasy XII. Where, we have a world conqueror, but none of the usual "I'm sad, I'm lonely, I don't like you. DIE! KILL! ALL THE WORLD MUST SUFFER! RIVERS OF BLOOD! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA".

I just thought it was a nice change.

Still waiting for Biggs and Wedge to show up :-). (Even, though, I found what they did to Cid quite interesting..)

I don't know if it's an American-ism in the games, but they like naming minor characters Biggs and Wedge (They usually only show up for a few minutes, usually).

That, and every game has a Cid in it, in some way or fashion. And, he's almost always a mechanical/electronic/scientific genius. And, he is in FFXII, but I like what they did... It was... different.
