I Live My Life To Music

And novel-writing is no exception. Far from it.

Starting with GeeKon (my first novel), I've taken to assembling playlists for my novels, a good-sized chunk of music that got me into the mindscape of the novel -- mood support.

For "The Five-Tyrant Summit," I had been using the playlist I made for "Shield and Crocus" mostly Thievery Corporation and Philip Glass' amazonian-music-weirdness album.

This morning, I decided the list I had was insufficient for novel-writing, when I kept having to go to the playlist and skip ahead, or fiddle around with Pandora.

Therefore, I'm taking a break to assemble a More Awesome playlist.

What kinds of music does one play for writing High-Octane New Weird Superheroes, you ask?
  • Bond -- I hadn't listened to much of their stuff in a while, but they really work. As mthielbar said, they're very urban, and the post-modern fusion of classical and trance/urban is a great mix for this project.
  • The Pillows -- you might recognize them as the musicians on the insano anime Furi Kuri, but probably, you won't.
  • The Conan movie soundtracks -- Mostly the fighty tracks. Hurray, Basil Poledouris. RIP.
  • Apocalyptica -- Chellos that sound like wailing heavy metal FTW.
  • ORIGA -- Thank you, tessier. Trilingual vocal awesome.

With a few random one-offs like "Westfall" by Okkervil River, "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, "Demons" by On The Rocks, and my old stand-by, "Halcyon+On+On" by Orbital.

audec-hal, writing, music, novel, books, comics
