A Confession...

OK, here goes: in all my 22 years of being an artsy Torontonian, I've never seen a single film at TIFF.  Shocking, I know.  But that's all about to change.  I spent... let's just say some time (perhaps it would be embarrassing to reveal how much) looking through the film schedules, and have purchased tickets to two films.  On Sunday afternoon, I'll check out Nothing is Private, amazing screenwriter Allen Ball's directorial debut (he of American Beauty and Six Feet Under fame).  Then, on the following Friday afternoon, I'll see that insane-sounding Bob Dylan bio-pic I'm Not There, directed by the amazing Todd Haynes that features a whole slew of actors, including Cate Blanchett, as Mr. Robert Zimmerman.  I'm totally excited!

If I had my druthers, I'd also see Fugitive Pieces, Persepolis, Brick Lane, Across the Universe, Young People Fucking, Deficit, Eastern Promises and Sukiyaki Western Django.  But I don't think I have the energy for going festival-crazy right now, something I've managed to do once a month this summer with Inside Out, Fringe and SummerWorks.  Also, two tickets set me back $50, and seeing as I'm currently unemployed, I might have to wait until the rest of those come to Queen Video.  Although I do have two job interviews tomorrow - wish me luck!
