Formula Student 2007 - prelim

Jul 19, 2007 00:22

Well, its all over for another year. Only this time it's all over for good. After 5 years of Formula Student, Ciaran attended his last competition. It's a mixed bag of emotions right now - cliched as it sounds, the whole thing has been a rollercoaster of ups, downs, and hitting the barriers at Kirkistown.

In 3rd year I was in charge of Engine Development. Which was supposed to involve mapping the engine on the Dyno. Only one problem - I handed my project up on the 12th of April, whereas the Dyno's were comissioned and finally opened on the 22nd. So not a huge amount done that year.

In 4th year I was team leader for the Chalmers Team. We started in march, when most teams are beginning their track testing. With no drawings, no old car, no CAD, no technicians, and a semi-enthusiastic team, Mike, Lasse and myself managed to get a rolling chassis to the competition. But no running car. Moment of the year was when I was given the tfd departments credit card to use as a guarantee for purchases, and told that under no circumstances was I to spend any money on it. By the end of the day I had spent over £1500 on it.... fun times

Then I headed back to QUB.....

I'm currently sorting the photos from the 2007 event - full report, a few pics and more reflections will be uploaded here sometime in the coming days / weeks. The full photo collection from 2007 will then be uploaded to my photoshelter account for a month or so.

More to follow..... soon.
