So I bought Haruhi vol.1 DVD the other day. And my love for the show has been completely renewed XD
I was rather curious about the dub, and found that most of it was bearable, and there are even a couple of rather exceptional voices. Wendee Lee does a pretty damned good job as Haruhi (probably because she's had a lot of experience voicing bratty girls i.e. Rozalin from Disgaea 2, the Qiao sisters from Dynasty Warriors etc.), and Crispin Freeman has got Kyon's tone of vaguely annoyed resignation down perfectly XD Was surprised to see Stephanie Sheh pull off a convincing Mikuru. She normally voices the mature/strong-willed characters. Though I do think that while she has matched the tone and feel of Mikuru's meek whimpering voice perfectly, there's just something about it that just doesn't sound right in English to me.
The Adventures of the ASOS Brigade extras (which are a series of behind the scenes shorts where "Haruhi", "Mikuru" and "Yuki" go to see Bang Zoom Entertainment to "oversee" the voice acting) were mildly amusing, even if the 02 episode was rather boring (though I did like how, in one of the episodes, they talk about bit-torrent, fansubs and watching anime on youtube XD) Though I like them anyway because Patricia Ja Lee makes a very hot Haruhi XD
I've already ordered volumes 2 and 3 off amazon (though I held off forking out for the collector's editions in light of not currently being employed) =3
