So Orange Box came out today. It's been a while since Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and it feels like it's been forever since I first saw the mind-bending gameplay footage of Portal. There've been so many release date delays. But I didn't mind. I would happily wait forever and a day for a game by Valve because I know it'll be something special when they're done with it. And now it's here, and I've spent the entire day on both those games XD
Portal is just fantastic. Although the whole physics-defying, motion-sickness-inducing gameplay made my eyes and head hurt after a bit XD And GLaDOS is quite possibly one of the best and well-realised (for a disembodied voice of an artificial intelligence) characters Valve ever made, right up there with Alyx, Barney and DOG. And, clearly, nothing can beat a game that
promises cake at the end of it! XD Also, best end credits sequence. EVAR!
HL2:Ep2 was basically more of Half Life 2. Which means it's spectacular by default. I'll give one thing for episodic content, the plot moves more quickly (even if it does seem to take the same amount of time to develop a short episode of a game as it is to develop a proper "full" game >_>). The sudden appearance and intriguing dialogue from the G-Man was probably my favourite plot point. Episode 2 never has a dull moment when it comes to plot. It started off with a bang and kept me compelled to play it all the way through in one sitting. And the end... oh, the end. I still can't believe it. After everything that happened from HL2 through episode 1... Valve, why are you so great? ;_; Can't wait till Episode 3 XD I wonder if the Half-Life story will end with Ep3... by the way things are going now, it certainly might do. I hope it does, and I fully believe Valve will make it one to remember.
NB: According to Steam, I've spent 7.7 hours on Episode 2 and 3.9 hours on Portal, which means I spent a total of 11.6 hours completing both games XD
