We Buuurn!

So, this is gonna be a huge post (mainly due to picspam) about the H2H/Clout weekend up at Durham. I'll try to keep things as entertaining as possible for those who don't know about archery, don't worry XD

Well, first of all, I woke up at 5am and grabbed my stuff to be picked up by James and the Minivan outside Agnes Jones. Got to Naomi's, and realised I'd forgotten my bow XDDD So I was pronounced a 'tard and we had to go back to Agnes to pick up my bow 8D It wasn't too much time by car anyway, maybe 20 minutes there and back?

I don't remember much else about the trip to the Northern part of the UK, seeing how I was mostly in that weird point in sleep where you can hear but am not quite conscious. All I remember is wishing James would stop playing that music of his =/

He wanted to get a hat, so we went past the Durham turn off and went to the MetroLand in Gateshead (which is a giant shopping centre complete with indoor themepark) to try and find a hat for him. We passed the Angel of the North, which I didn't get a picture of 'cos I missed it on the way to MetroLand and couldn't on the way back from it 'cos my hands were full. James didn't get a hat 'cos the shops weren't open XD We needed to be there by 9:30am and shops weren't open till 9am. I got a latte and a sausage roll though =3

Everyone was very, very sleepy. I propped my rucksack against the side of the bus and leant on it like a makeshift pillow, Nick climbed onto the backseats and slept on it like a bed, Sam was just sleeping in her seat, Meherdad was asleep up front and Naomi & Dean fell asleep on each other:

Aw~ =P

We didn't really have time to set up the tents before the shoot, so we just parked the bus and got our bow equipment out and made our way to where the shoot was setting up.

The most important thing about doing archery in the middle of a field in Durham, with the sun baring down on you all the while, is to make sure you're comfortable...

Clearly, Meherdad had it covered.

Here's a photo of the shooting line:

Those targets are about 50metres away, I think. Obviously, I wasn't taking the photo from the shooting line XD Metal detectors were used to find the arrows that missed. They worked a lot better than the shitty one we used during practice XD

Also, there were tiny spiders everywhere! I kept finding them crawling on me throughout the day. Also, at one point, we went up to collect arrows and found that a spider had managed to spin several strands of web between 3 arrows on the target during the time we were shooting =o

When it was all over for the day, we went over to the place where everyone was camping and decided to set up our tents.

Naomi and Dean's tent was particularly...striking XD

And seeing how I managed to set up the tent again without breaking it or myself, I thought it was worth a photo...

And this is Sam's tent:

She's doing it wrong.

James went off to buy a hat at some point during the day. I took a photo of him in it. However, the photo didn't turn out quite how anyone would expect it to...

Looks fairly normal, right? Well, let me show you what that photo looks like on my phone (photo taken with another phone)...

It's a bit blurry but you can clearly see that, while the first photo of James I posted only features James in his silly hat, the photo on my phone (and I am 100% sure it's the same photo, I did take two but James was posing differently in the 2nd one) clearly shows the white blob known as Dean in mid-jump on the left of the photo. See, initially I thought maybe, for some bizarre reason, the phone cut's the sides off your photo by a bit and Dean was on the side that was cut off... but the bags that Dean is jumping above on the photo are still there! And it can't be something like a lag time between me pressing the button and the camera taking the photo, 'cos then why does my phone show Dean being in the picture but my computer does not?? It just baffles me, the difference is so damned clear XDDD

Anyway, it's a mystery. Either Dean is a ghost, or a figment of all of our imaginations XD In either case, I feel sorry for Naomi, she must be very lonely =(

So this is Camp Liverpool:

And this is Camp Leeds:

I think some members of Bradford were in there too, but it was largely Leeds peoples. They flew a pirate flag in the middle of their camp:

I had ninja plasters, therefore it would not have been a good idea to merge our two camps XDD

(oh, and there's Nick in the corner of that photo XD)

There was a mass exodus to Tesco wherein we bought fire, alcohol and things to burn on the fire. And then we all came back to burn the fuck out of shit. Us:

And Leeds:

Incidentally, Leeds also have a "Momma Kate", although spelt slightly differently from the Momma-Cate that I know XD

The rest of the night was something of a blur. There was alcohol. There was fire. There was food. At some point there were fireworks off in the distance. We ran out of vodka at some point. We started to mingle with Camp Leeds at some point. They're cool. And then I think I drank their vodka too XDDDD

Good times.

I often get the impression that we, as a group, tend to snub the other universities at events. And I never understood why. I mean, sure, maybe there are one or two people you don't like, but it just... I dunno, to just be anti-social to them all, especially if they try and interact with us... it's just not something that makes me particularly comfortable. I mean, it's clear that we can all get along, so I'm never sure why we tend to behave like that. So it was good to see all of us mingle around the campfire this weekend ^_^

This was what things looked like the day after, at about 7 or 8 in the morning XD:

The sprinklers for the aquaturf came on at some point, so I decided to take a picture of that too:

And then it was time to get ready for the Clout shoot.

Basically, we had to shoot at a patch of ground 180yds (or was it metres?) away (70/80 yds for women)., marked by cloured flags.

This was meant to be a picture of the flags but it just turned out to be a picture of Nick XD Basically, the men's flag was about level with the two faint white poles you can see on the left of the picture (they're rugby posts), and the women's were around the area of the nearer set of rugby posts.

Basically, you aim for the sky, and you pray. Or. You can use some kind of reference point down your bow i.e. line a part of your bow up with something like the tree line or something, and work out which one will get you into the scoring zone. Me, I went with the praying method XDDD

I scored a phenomenol zero in Clout XD (I also got knocked out in the first round of the H2H the day before).

For some reason, there were a lot of trophies for Clout... this is a terrible picture of everyone else, mainly 'cos I took it without telling them XD

Liverpool people actually won stuffs!

Trophy Boy 1:

Dean got 1st place in Clout (forget the score, but he did score, in one round of six arrows, what people have achieved during the entire shoot). As you can see, he's pretty chuffed XD He also won something for the H2H qualifiers! He was just a proper WINRAR that weekend.

Trophy Boy 2:

James got 2nd place... he looks kinda crazed about it...He actually managed to break his trophy within moments of sitting down and playing with it. He just unscrewed it all 'cos it's all fastened by a huge screw bolt XD

Trophy Boy 3:

Naomi got 3rd place in the women's category, I think. That proper made her day XD

Dean is just as good as me with the camera faces sometimes...

Here's a photos of all 3 WINRARS in all their glory!

We even gave the trophies seats on the bus...

And this is the Leeds Archery soc:

A number of them are going to BUSA Outdoors this coming weekend, so I'll probably see them again.

And that's that for last weekend. Had a great time, and I didn't even get burnt like everyone else! XD

Well, actually, looking at my arms now they appear to be ever-so-slightly red. I think if there were another day of sun then I'd have got sunburn XD We took a detour to Bradford, randomly, on the way back to eat at an Indian restaurant. So we didn't get back till gone midnight.

It's BUSA Outdoors this weekend up at Telford, near Birmingham. So it won't take as long as Durham at least XD

Last night I went to Bar Cahvah (dunno how it's spelt), which is a tequila bar in Liverpool. There was this random guy talking to us, he apparantly was part of the governing NHS trust for this area (and the things he seemed to know about did support his claim). Which was kinda random XD T'was a fun night though. I liked the banana flavoured vodka =3

Today was spent in the lab. Gonna be starting work on my project strains soon!

I also found out that there was a computer room for staff. However, it appears to be a small room with about 8 PCs in it, only half of which I can use, and no windows. The entrance is code-locked so it has to be shut all the time. It's a sauna in there, which is not what I need when it's hot these days >_> Also, the 4 PCs that I'm able to use (because they don't require a login and password) are crap. The keyboards are knackered and the mousewheel only ever scrolls down, no matter what direction you move it in -_-

And that's me about caught up. Which means I can not post for another week or so XDDD

Happy birthday to Laura and Natalie!
