Cake or recs

Though cake is one of those things that is oft on my To Do lists, but doesn't get done, so mostly it would just be recs. Thank you for the rec! I enjoyed the alt fic as well -- Harriet feeling that she shouldn't supersede the "legitimate" connections in getting the money feels very much like her. Ryland Vaughan is going to be very unhappy, though, and is probably going to begin sniffing around and asking for loans and/or editorial input on Phil's books because "it's what Phil would have wanted!" (I will say that for a careless literary bloke, Phil changes his will *really* fast in the original, especially considering that he was hoping to get back together with Harriet and the total time lapse between her leaving and his death was about four months. In my fic I had to assume that Urquhart was pushing him to change it, but in real life it wouldn't surprise me if a similar situation led to the ex-love getting the inheritance).

Phil does change his will very fast in the original. Urquhart pushing him to do so is very plausible. I suppose that while he comes to want Harriet back, he might also have done it straight after they split up in a fit of pique, and though he then hopes to get back with Harriet, doesn't do anything about his will because he's assuming that when they're back together will be soon enough.
