Finally some concrete summer plans!

A weekend in the city? Which city, Elliot? Well, London - Hyde Park - Blur! With only seating tickets remaining for their MEN show (fuck that) Alex suggested we go for Hyde Park. In work, dealing with an endless list of sunglasses which needed merchandising in a stale little back office with no windows or air-conditioning, I remembered a passage from "So Long and Thanks For All The Fish" in which it was stated and explained in very great detail that there is nothing more beautiful than Hyde Park in the summer time. Then I remembered that summer from two years ago when we went to Field Day and the streets were dusty and golden in the morning - fuck the crowds, London is an absolutely gorgeous city, I'm far from tired of it and we're going again, for a weekend with an ALMIGHTY FUCKING BLUR GIG right in the middle.

So, once the tickets had been bought (thanks Alex, I'll pay you back) I started speculating, as I do, on who will be the "special guests". Instantly I thought The Kaiser Chiefs but then realised that the only possible reason I could have for supposing that such pernicious hypocrites would be supporting was because they, themselves, like the arrogant pricks they are, stated that they'd do it. Ha, no. Then I thought that it'd likely be someone dubby/hip-hoppy/worldly, and, for some reason, the first collective to come to mind was De La Soul. They worked with Damon on Demon Days, after all. Then, with sinking horror I realised that Graham Coxon has been working with Pete Doherty - but I later learned, to my relief, that Scumbag Vomitlips and his friends who I'd cross the street to avoid would never do it, as Damon hates them - "Make Doherty History". Ooh, get me, it's been the case that I'm seeing Blur for about five hours and already I'm on first name terms.

I've since checked the message boards to garner the opinion of the fans. The following names have been brought up a lot - The Kinks (very likely, apparently), Super Furry Animals, The Cardiacs, Paul Weller (DIE), Lily Allen (DIE), Kate Nash (DIE), Amandou and Miriam, Oasis (hoho), Supergrass, The Subways, Beck, The Specials, The Cribs, Hard Fi (NO), The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, Reverend and The Makers...and then I thought, whoah, why not Stereolab?

Eventually, however, it dawned on me that to get worked up about the support acts is silly - for it was then that I realised that I'm going to see fucking Blur again and then I remembered that they've been one of my favourite bands for longer than have been Radiohead and it suddenly occurred to me that they have dozens of songs which mean THE FUCKING WORLD to me and I became giddy and excited and started dreaming up setlists. Mm. It'll be, as Alex said, legendary.

Sorry, had to offset the panic and worry somehow. Whilst waiting for a bus Chris called me and asked me as to why Jaz and Tom had been spotted at the hospital accompanying a wheelchair bound Nat. I don't fucking know! What the fuck was Chris doing at the hospital anyway? He broke his thumb playing football.

So, of course, I feared the worst and rung Nat, Tom and then Jaz, one after the other:

Nat - You have reached the O2 message centre - *click*
Tom - Hello! This is Tom. I'm sorry, but I'm not currently - *click*
Jaz - Hello! This is Jasmine. I'm sorry, but I'm not currently - *click*

So, shit, shit shit, what's going on? Later Tom calls me and assures me that everything's ok. Well, cool. Panicked a bit though, but she IS ok and she gets the fullest of my regards and so too does Laura who I can only assume rushed her way to Manchester the second she heard, she's wonderful like that.

So, to conclude, there is absolutely nothing to worry about and I can finally rest assured that this summer will be excellent.
