my summer lineup

May 01, 2006 02:04

May 7th- Begin a four week vacation from Yale. Daddy picks me up sometime in the morning. I'm already almost done packing.
-Interim- Spend time with Grandma, do yard work, finish the Harry Potter series in Spanish, reread the books, get a pre-tan, read my summer textbook, try to learn some Portuguese with Grandma.
June 4th- Ride down to New Haven. Hopefully mummy will drive me, because I'm going to have lots of luggage. Check in starts, I don't know, noonish?
-Interim- Study Portuguese 5 days a week from 1-4, sleep in late, stay up late, spend my spare time at CLS watching movies
June 28th- Bounce from class and hop onto a CT limo to JFK, destination: Sao Paulo. Boarding sometime at night, hopefully around 11pm. Then, I'll either be meeting with my classmates/professors at the airport or just making it to my hotel on my own.
-Interim- Take class, travel to Rio de Janeiro, weekend excursions, land up in Paraty. Enjoy the pool and sun, and hopefully I'll find someone who will be willing to speak to me in Portuguese or Spanish.
July 29th- Hop on a 6 hour bus ride to GRU, Garulhos, Sao Paulo's big airport. I'll hopefully arrive some time in the afternoon and get on an 11pmish flight to San José, Costa Rica. I'll have plenty of time on the bus to focus on not vomiting and reviewing Spanish somehow. Read a book, memorize vocab? Maybe i'll just reconstruct a big summary of all of the tenses and basic things of that sort.
July 30th- Arrive in San José, Costa Rica after an indirect flight (either to Atlanta or Miami first). By this time, there will be tons of unread e-mail and snail mail. Still not sure what to do about that. It'll be a Sunday and by this time I'll know to where to take a cab; hopefully my host family won't be in church.
-Interim- Take a placement test on the first day of school and commence classes, four hours a day, five days a week. Hopefully I'll get some tips from my family about weekend exploration. My school supposedly has a library, so maybe I'll be spending spare time there.
September 2nd- Hop on a plane headed back to JFK. I'll arrive really late at night, so I'll probably have to hang out at the airport for a couple of hours before taking a cab to Grand Central. There's a 5am Metro North ride with my name on it.
September 3rd- Cab drops me off at Calhoun and I have one day of rest before the new semester begins. If I don't speak Spanish like a mutha by now, then God help me.

Yay summer language study! The week of September 3rd, I need to go to UCS to start inquiring about summer-long internships. Maybe I can find one that isn't actually part of a particular program- that means finding an altruistic plastic surgeon somewhere in Guatemala or something who's working on cleft pallates. Oh yes, oh yes.
