least powerful man in the free world

Nov 07, 2004 14:15

thinking about how the president of the united states is the most powerful man on the planet, in terms of political and military might
and thinking
imagine what an example he could make if he wanted
could you imagine having a man in office who was a real man?
powerful, yet humble
a philosopher and an orator, an artist and a politician and a humanitarian
roundly educated, as in the renaissance view of what was desirable
a man who truly inspired others and drew you to him
the sort of man you would think a nation our size and economic power would choose carefully

imagine what a tone we could set on the world stage
and how that could ripple out and radiate
and i think that's the saddest part of all this nonsense
all this fakery on both sides
not to mention gw and his land-raping oil-drillhand of doom
what a wasted opportunity for humankind
we could have a powerful and positive effect on the world
simply by demonstrating an elevated level of awareness and sensitivity
but we cannot
and that is what is saddest
our leaders are like TV
they don't mean what they say
you accept that they are prepped and fed speeches and are surrounded by image consultants of one sort or another
and dishonest
they practice the art of loquaciousness With Intent to Deceive or Evade
you listen to them answer a question and forget what the question was by the time they are done
this is intentional
they let agendas of ego or greed motivate their actions, and then lie about what is really going on, claim to be acting nobly
they do not care a whit for truth or Truth
they are the thickest thieves on the planet
what is this? what world is this where we accept that our elected officials are liars? and that our leaders mislead us?
what strange nightmare is this? and why do we feel we deserve it?

the loud world doesnt exist
this quiet one is all there is
