I call to order the first meeting of the Jamey Dodger Society, a group for those who have read a "Thick as Thieves" arc or want to become as spoiled as Varuca Salt.

Some initial shower thoughts here...

(1) So, Costis using the Hamiathes Gift flag when they came into Thegmis Port created some interesting parallels for me. In a way... Costs is the Thief and Kamet is the Gift--what will turn the tide of the war. I love how Kamet was like, "I didn't know what the Gift was and I didn't care." XD

(2) Did you notice that Costis used the name Aris as the caravan?

(3) GUYS! When Gen was the boot boy, he hid in the garden to avoid doing chores. Now he hides in the garden, to avoid being king.

(4) After years and years of waiting, we finally know who Sandy is and I love her! That explains the "she has met me" bit in CoK.

(5) Am I the only one who lost it when Costis hugged Kamet?

Afterwards, Costis is like, why didn’t you defend yourself?
And Kamet is like, why did you give me a sword, you imbecile? Slaves don’t defend themselves!
Costis is just all… aww, someone needs a hug.

(6)

Thick as Thieves
“I am inches from death from a putrid sore throat and you should leave me in the nearest ditch.”
“If I wouldn’t leave you in a well, why would I abandon you in a ditch?”
“I was just trying to stop you from worrying, and I’ve seen someone else do it that way.”

The King of Attolia
“Are you badly hurt?”
“Hideously, I am disemboweled. My insides may in an instant become my outsides as I stand here before you, and no one will even notice.”

Let it sink in that Costis tried to reassure Kamet the same way he saw Eugenides try to reassure Irene, but fails at sarcasm.

(7) Am I the only who finds it hilarious that Gen’s mission for Cosits turned out to basically be that escort mission you always get in first-person shooter games. Although, Kamet is a lot less useless than an NPC!
Which makes KoA the worst job interview ever!

(8) COSTIS!

Costis, oh my Costis. He’s just so…

Hey buddy, sit by me.
Hey buddy, walk next to me.
Hey buddy, want to hear a funny joke? *roasts Gen*
Cool story, bro! (totally sincere)

And Kamet is just like, no, no, no. I’m a slave. This is not how this works. WHY ARE YOU SO NICE! You’re making me feel guilty for lying!

(9)

“Is he always rescuing Immakuk?”
“Not at all. They save each another.”

I would want to box his ears too! You've been here the whole time letting me put sand in your food and your were that little truent kitchen boy from before and never told me!

Knowing Kamet now, I could definitely see how he and Thief! Gen got along. Just the way he's like... more people should bite the cook! XD I wonder how much time they spent together?

Haha I think it also shows that Gen would rather eat sand for months than reveal his hand (or part of his hand) and give up whatever sneaky advantage he has.

That Sandy bit was a looooong payoff from KoA.

Can't you just see Irene, convalescing in her rooms and worrying about Gen eating dinner (with sand) by himself, and finally telling him he HAS to go to the kitchens? And Gen, prevaricating as ever, all like "but I hate being embarrassed...."
XD

YES I loved this bit. Costis and Sophos can both be in the WWGD (What Would Gen Do) club.

WWGD! Lol!

I said something similar, about how they could start a club, if only to commiserate when it never works for them the same way it does for Gen. XD

I read through your comments and clicked 'concur' in my head as I read them.

I loved "KoA the worst job interview ever"!

Haha, I noticed #6 too! Loved all the references/mentions back to the King of Attolia. One other detail from this book that I didn't learn from King of Attolia: wait, Costis is "handsome"? :)
