A while ago I bought The Hogfather in the hope that it would be perfect Sunday evening family viewing. So I sat down on Sunday with my family only to be deeply disappointed. We didn't make it to the second disc. The blame for this lies squarely with director and writer Vadim Jean.
Although it is described as adapted for the screen by Jean and "messed about with" by Terry Pratchett there is precious little sign of any adaptation. I've not read the book but this is far too novelistic (and, I'm guessing, faithful) and this kills it as television. There are too many plot threads causing it to be confusing and slow and utterly undramatic. None of this is aided by some very dodgy acting from a lot of people who should know better. In short, for fans of Doctor Who only. Avoid.
