Painful

Went to see Equisite Pain at Riverside Studios tonight. It was a fucking debacle.

The play itself is adapted from a piece of conceptual art about suffering and is designed to reward the patient. Unfortunately that is not a virtue this audience had. My gut feeling is that Equistite Pain is not a very good play but it is hard to tell because my critical faculties were clouded by an all encompassing rage whilst watching it.

I don't get on very well with other people. My daily commute brings me to the point of violence every day. So did this audience. The thick as shit girls directly behind me talked through the whole thing. The rest weren't much better. At least a dozen noisely walked out. Those that remained displayed the single most maddening trait of the modern audience: laughter. People seem to have forgotten any other response exists. Tragedy, pathos, comedy; the response is the same. If they don't understand it or it makes them uncomfortable it must be funny. I'm constantly amazed that people seem to revel in parading their ignorance and stunted emotions in such a way. The success of black comedy on television seems to have left people unequipped to deal with blackness that isn't humourous. It makes you wonder if they are even able to understand why black comedy is funny or are simply grunting idiotically at the shock value. Cunts, the lot of them.
