That's it. I've decided. I don't want to hear this anymore "Well, you really shouldn't have to do it, someone else should." No, I don't want to hear it from you, or anyone else. And I want you to stop accepting it too. True, in some cases this applies. Sure I accept that, but it most cases the "someone else" tends to be someone who isn't going to do it anyway, no matter how much you cajole them into doing it. So I say right here, right now, no more. Stop thinking that someone else should do it because guess what, you're someone else. If we all keep thinking that someone else should try and help, or someone else should go clean up the park, or someone else should vote or, take care of the problems at the school or someone else should make dinner, or someone else should clean up the mess in the you know what you wind up with? Global warming, toxic pollution, lack of support for schools, lack of volunteers that make the world go round, lack of care packages for those abroad, no Aunt Hannahs from alums, no one doing the dishes in the kitchen, no one speaking out about logging, or fuel efficiency, or global poverty, or racism except for the few who say no, I am someone and I am going to something about it. I don't mean to sound high on a horse because I admit that with some of those bigger issues, I don't do enough, and I accept that no single person can do everything for everyone without winding up sacrificing their own happiness. But truly, I'm tired of seeing that look in other peoples eyes when I snap back at them for looking at me like I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing to help, or when I say "Yes, it is my responsibility because this is MY house" when they say I shouldn't worry about the button that's come off the living room pillow. When you let go of taking responsibility for things like that, like buttons coming off pillows, or the fact you drive from one end of campus to the other when you could easily walk, or that perpetuating the Western lifestyle and ideologies of consumption and other practices that lead to environmental degradation, you wind up with rising sea levels, toxic valleys full of electronic "recycling" and global warming, which wind up hurting other people. So I say no more, and the next person to tell me that I shouldn't have to do something I am going to outright snap at them and say "Am I not someone? Aren't you too?" because I'm tired of doing this but until others wake up and realize that letting things go for someone else to do has ruined our planet, our communities and MY HOUSE, I'm going to continue to do my best to keep doing things I shouldn't *have* to do, and rip a new one for those who tell me I shouldn't do it but don't offer any help.
Because I flat out don't care if I hurt any one's feelings by doing so--you've hurt mine by doing nothing.
