Geez. This really hits home - it was something like the first community that I joined (it's 10 years old, and I've been here about 10 years, too!), and I stumbled onto so many delightful recs in fandoms I knew and didn't knew but was thrilled to explore nevertheless... ah, the times. It feels like LJ - or at least the fannish US/European part of it - can't stop its erosion anymore.
