I am so freaking annoyed by my uncle. He and my aunt have been doing this gallbladder flush or liver flush thing (Leberreinigung) during the last couple weeks. I don't know if you guys are familiar with it. It's basically a homeopathic treatment where you eat vegan and add epsom salt and an olive oil juice mix to your diet in order to widen you bile ducts and thus be able to excrete gall stones and sludge easily. At least that's the theory.
So, my aunt and uncle decided to try this, which - fine by me, if they feel they need to. To each their own, right?
However,
now that he's doing it, my uncle has hardly any other topic. Awesome liver flush this, amazing liver flush that. Blablabla. This morning, he actually went so far as to let me know that I "have to do a liver flush too". Didn't want to know whether I wanted to or whether I was even interested in it at all. Just told me I had to do it. The subtle message being, "You live unhealthy. I need to cure you."
I really shouldn't be bothered by this, because it's not the first time he's taking stabs at my health. Pretty much every time we're sitting at some table together he starts talking about how I should eat less salt, less cheese, less eggs, blablabla, bringing up a new dietary theory each week, and he keeps informing me on how I'm not gonna live to be 127 years old like he plans to be. Not like I actually want to be. Not like he actually will. But who cares, he just loves to give me lectures.
Yeah, so I am fat. And, yeah, that's not healthy. Big deal. But, it is my big deal. Not anybody else's, ffs. If I wanna do something about it, I will. If I don't, leave me alone. Not to mention, if you actually do want to compare my uncle to me? I'm the healthier one, because, aside from the occasional cold that I catch, I've never had any serious medical trouble at all. Ever. My blood count is fine, my blood pressure is normal, my organs are all doing a great job, my bones and joints are all working as they should. The only issues I've had so far, were stress related.
Argh. Every Sunday after family brunch, I come back to my room, pissed and frustrated. Today I was so angry that I started researching liver flush on the internet. And you know what the kicker is? There's tons of pseudo-intellectual pages about it, all praising and whatnot. And when you take a closer look, you find out they're created by people who wrote books on the topic and want to sell those. And, in between, you find two or three serious scientific pages about the topic. Pages that actually list research sources and scientific proof. And those pages say the whole liver flush mania is nothing but a perfect example of the placebo effect. Not only is the treatment unhealthy, but also can the supposed gall stones and sludge that leave the body during the treatment be proven to be NOT gall stones and sludge at all, but byproducts of the unreasonable oil-consumption during the treatment. This has been tested and proven again and again by scientists during the last 15 years.
But hey, why invest those 5 minutes of research to figure out you've fallen for yet another health scam, when it's so much more fun to lecture your fat little niece about how unhealthy she lives...
