Haven't seen the ep yet, but IPAD!!! I love mine so much it's almost ridiculous. Or maybe it's completely ridiculous. It's like a robot pet or something. I just want to have it with me all the time.
I know! I've been trying to not squee and keep it on the down-low, but it's better than I was expecting. I'm pretty pissed off at all the PC-techies who keep complaining about what it doesn't do without reacting to what it does! I had actually bought the hype that one couldn't actually type on it - until I played with one at the bookstore and realized, if I could learn to play the piano and to type in Cyrillic, I could do this! (I find myself using only three fingers on each hand, to keep the thumb and pinkie out of the way, but I'm able to take notes, which is one of the things I wanted to do. And I'm sure I'll improve.
I have no problem typing on it, but I also bought the keyboard dock for when I travel and am relying on it as my primary computer. Still, it's SUCH A FUN TOY. I feel like an ass for buying a first-gen apple product which I never ever ever do because you know they are going to lower the price and add awesome features in like 6 months, but I couldn't help myself with this. I pre-ordered it the day they became available.
Still, it's gorgeous and fast and does amazing things and I love it the most. And when they put a camera and a USB port and set up multi-tasking? It will be the greatest toy EVER.
I may still buy the keyboard dock, but one of the reasons I wanted it was to take it around to various museums and libraries to take notes this summer, so I'm trying to get by without it.
I feel the same way about 1st gen Apple items (although I had an original 5gb iPod!) For me, the decision was made because of this trip I have coming up, so it was either buy one now or don't. I'm not regretting the decision! I'm surprised how good up-sizing iPhone apps is. Yes, you can tell, but they're functional and look better than I was expecting. I've been playing Aurora Feint 3, just 'cause it's pretty. Got slain by a Professional Rogue last night.
And say what you will, Apple products are just so sensually inviting - they make you want to touch and hold and play with them. The techies want to tinker; Appleites want to play. Or create. It's a totally different mindset (and I say that as someone with a background in physics!).
I haven't actually used the dock except to test it out and I have no trouble with the typing, so I think you'll be fine. But I agree about apple products. I use a PC for work and it's good for work. That's what it's for. But when I'm home? I want my mac. It's for play. Absolutely.
My favorite ipad app so far? ComicZeal. I uploaded my comic book files and they look GORGEOUS on the ipad. Ugh. So fab. And the bookreader thrills me.
I haven't really used the iBook Reader, because I have a bunch of stuff in Stanza, which is still totally readable upsized. And I'm using GoodReader for PDF files, so I have a whole landscape row filled of various book readers, when I add in Kindle! I did hook the iPad up to a projector last week, and it works beautifully. And my Iain Stewart geology documentaries look fab. (I only bought the 16GB, but I'll just rotate stuff on and off via laptop, and I can store them on my iPod)!
I just realized I have the entire arc of Mac products - Mini desktop, MacBook, iPod (more than one!), iPad, and iPhone. So, yeah, I was going to give in eventually.
LOVE!

Still, you realize we're ahead of 1960s Star Trek technology now…
