I see from your comment on your livejournal that you did google him. :-)
I need to add things, though!
Xavier Dolan is this out and proud, hyperactive filmmaker. 5 movies in five years, starting at age 20. He made his first film with the money he earned doing dubbing for French versions made in Quebec. For instance, he is Ron Weasley's voice in the Harry Potter films in French.
Dolan is very artistic, tries different things. At the beginning of his career, he appeared very arrogant to a lot of people. A bit like if he were aware of his talent and not hiding it. Two years ago he annoyed the higher-ups in Cannes when he publicly complained about not being in the OFFICIAL competition. He can be annoying. But, I think he has improved.
When invited at a New York festival (or something) to give a course about cinema, people expected him to talk about some oldish, snubbish 60s French fims. But, no, he chose only recent American fims, stating that Titanic was the film that prompted him to try and make movies.
He is very outspoken and doesn't seem to care if people judge him. If he says he wants to meet Channing Tatum, it probably means he is fascinated by the man. I find it cool. Especially when some critics keep on snubing CT. They haven't met yet, and maybe they won't. But if they did and it profesionnally clicked, I'd be very curious to see a project with both men, as they have a different life experience, a very different personnality but are both interesting.
It's in French, but in the last sentence of the article, he says that while at Cannes he will manage "to watch Foxcatcher with Channing Tatum". And he adds : "Maybe I'll die of it." He seems to have a bit of a professionnal crush. Or he just allows himself to enjoy his time in Cannes and watch actors he likes.
Dolan himself got rave reviews for his new film that he premiered at the festival Thursday.
