Why HST Killed himself

This little opinion of mine is so imbedded in my head I neglected to add the words "I think" to the title. It's a little too obvious to me why this would happen. Let's say your....well me. Being me you would look at the world and the media and wonder why the world hasn't ended. Watch Dr. Phil for 5 minutes and you'll see what I mean. Now let's say your Thompson. Let's say the work your famous for is a look back to a decade that had more meaning to it than one your currently in. In exchange for Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane you get the Bees Gees. In exchange for a free spirit you get loathing. In exchange for the 60's you get disco and bad hair.. Not fair. I can see this happening now. The late 80's and 90's were almost a rehash of what had been 30 years before. You could see it happening. You could see parents getting afraid of their kids again. You could see people acting the way they wanted and shot down any criticism they would get. But now, if you don't listen to 50 cent and Jay-z your a fag. now if you don't watch CSI and Survivor your not hip. Once again we've exchanged sensitivity for eccess and materialism. And Thompson's seen it twice. Back then his ideas were revolutionary. To most people today, they're boring. Some one who's ideas still held water were kicked to the side. Why listen to him if you could get an opinion spoon fed to you by Bill o'Reily? A hand full of people still gave him credit. In this age the world had passed by any real thinkers and he probably couldn't take it anymore.

Or....maybe he was just crazy.
