on christmas and art submissions.

christmas was good this year but it was too bad it was on a monday (and strange too, to be around home for two days before christmas and not only one) since both mom and fred had work in the morning. we had our chinese on christmas eve and kris made a great dinner on christmas day that was holy in its evilness of goodness. i am glad i am not a strict christian or i might have to question the rightness of being a total sloth and glutton on christmas.

i was a bit bummed to back yesterday but i received in my inbox an e-mail from pretty:darn:swell that the watercolor image i sent them was "fantastic" (which is cool as the "curator" is an artist himself with "learning") and that they were going to produce it for a month. pretty:darn:swell is an online gallery of sorts that takes artists' artworks and produces small 6x6" or 5x7" prints of them and sells them for a month for 20 bucks. 5 dollars goes to me and 5 dollars goes to any charity of my choice, which i of course chose to be special olympics as always. so this will be my first print! even though it's a small print it's still pretty darn cool. or pretty darn swell i guess i should say. they need to proof my higher res image and the print, but then they will tell me when it will be up and i will tell you in case any of you are interested.

meanwhile i'm still waiting for word from my illustration submissions to cricket and highlights magazines. this is the first time i've submitted illustration samples in a long while since i was busy trying to improve my  "craft" but i feel like i have come a long way in what i could do two years ago compared to what i can do now. i also think that magazines would be a good stepping stone of practice since they're stories of 1-5 pages and not a 24 page book. get the hang of things. that is if somebody deems me worthy. that's really the most important part- getting in. once i get the chance, i will certainly make the most of it.
