Schools' Pervert Warning
Two Burnley schoolgirls have spoken exclusively to the Express of a frightening attack by a "grinning man" as they walked to school on Monday morning.
Now parents and schoolchildren are being warned to be on the alert after the 13-year-olds were assaulted by the man in busy Padiham Road as they made their way to Ivy Bank Business and Enterprise College.
The girls, who were not injured but were left shocked and distressed, continued on to school where the headteacher alerted the police and their parents.
The man, who was dressed like a workman or builder and thought to be in his 40s, began following the girls around 8-30a.m. as they walked past the Lockyer Avenue junction.
One of the girls, who we are not naming, said: "We carried on walking and he was still following us. He got so close I thought he was trying to get passed me so I moved to the side and he didn't go past so I thought, 'What's going on?'."
He touched the girl and, when she turned around, grinned at her. Both girls started to walk faster and the man then reached out for the other girl.
At first they thought he was going for her bag and she said: "Then he went for me. At first I thought he'd just brushed by me by accident but then he touched me again. He didn't speak, he just kept grinning. We wanted to get away, we started walking really fast and when we got to Palace House he turned round and started walking back up the road."
A 13-year-old boy who had been walking in front of the girls had earlier noticed the man sitting in a rusty brown coloured open-backed truck parked in Lockyer Avenue, and a few minutes later the man drove past in the direction of Padiham, still watching them.
Ivy Bank, along with neighbouring Habergham and Gawthorpe High Schools sent out letters to all parents advising them to ensure their children took extra care and, where possible, walk to school in groups.
Staff and pupils have also been asked to report anyone seen acting suspiciously in the area.
Thought people might wanna read it if they hadn't already.
Does Burnley just... attract perves?
I mean we had those ones the other month.. in Habergham grounds, didn't we?
Anyone know what ACTUALLY happened there? As in the non rumours version.
Okay. Got nothing to update about tonight.
