Pending temporary freedom...

So due to some funky company vacation/shutdown time today is my last day of work until after the first of the year. That feels kind of weird but is also incredibly nice because I won’t be answering the phone or e-mail the entire time I’m off. That will rock mightily.

My dad said he’d come by and help me that week so we can get all the stuff around there organized finally. That means that we might just be able to have it all nice and done before the holiday. That _also_ would rock mightily.

I would love to get all the junk disposed of over the next week and I’m definitely going to make an effort to get rid of the International then as well. I should be able to toss most of the crap out there that I don’t need without too much trouble with the exceptions of the large Color Laserjet 5 that I have full of toner and a bunch of old chemical strippers, poisons, and stains. Those will be the hardest to get rid of.

Once those leave though I should have enough space out there to install the second couch. I’d like to get that done before the holidays for a smoking lounge when people visit.

I saw on the news this morning that the automotive bailout fell flat because the unions wouldn’t lower their wages. I’ve got a fair amount of family that are union people but frankly I have no sympathy. The unions need a reality check and they need to cash it.

Times are tough but as a friend of mine pointed out we’re lucky to _have_ jobs. That’s part of the mentality that is borked in society right now. “I went to school and I learned all these things so I DESERVE a job!”

BZZZT! Thank you for playing! As a consolation prize you get a lifetime of welfare, a deep-rooted sadness, and disdain from those of us just happy to be able to work for a living!

(Note: I’m not picking on people on welfare because they have to be - I’m picking on the _professional_ welfare people that think the world owes them something. You know the ones I mean.)

The thing is this - the world owes you nothing but offers you everything if you’re willing to work for it.

That’s it. That’s how it works.

I don’t care what excuse you use that’s what it all comes down to.

It’s taken me almost 40 years to learn that and I’m passing it on to you for free. Take it and run with it with my blessing. Despite what people think free advice is not necessarily worth only what you paid for it and if I can help someone reading this to get moving on the right track then so much the better.

I’m well on my way to working for what I want. I’m tired. I’m worn thin. I’m overwhelmed, under-appreciated, overloaded, overweight, and many many other things.

But I still keep going because I know that I have to do that to get what I want.

Ever hear that old cliche? “You can’t win if you don’t play.”

You’re already playing the game just by being here so why not play to win?
