So in short order I’ve just had an aunt die, several things at work go wonky today including two virus infections that I just cleaned off, still no repair parts come in yet, a friend of mine is still in trouble and had his main system just die, and I really really need to get more sleep because I know I’ve forgotten things that should be in that list.
I dub these moments “Universal Cycles of Annoyance”! UCAs. I wonder if that acronym is being used elsewhere. A UCA is different from a Super Hyper Monkey Bonus Round in that UCAs tend to encompass not only myself but people around me AND I do not necessarily have to handle some of the things that come up in a UCA whereas in a SHMBR I _have_ to handle everything that comes up.
So I installed the 50’ of sprinkler/soaker hose yesterday only to find that I need at least another 25’ to cover all the bed areas. That and the water pressure of the house is not good enough to use the cool fireman style hose nozzle I got so I have to go back to a generic nozzle. (Eventually I’ll put a pressure tank in the water system so we have better than city pressure.)
I played with the X10 remote control modules and found that they seem to work quite well throughout the existing wiring of the house. That and they can be server controlled which means I don’t need to find the remote. It also means that I can script it. (I suddenly realize exactly how easy it would be to do one of those geeky lighted-house-to-music videos.) Anyway that means among other things I can use the generic modules to control water valves and automatically water the garden every day.
I really want to take a vacation but I can’t afford to take the time off. Once again, like most Americans, I’m living to work. Not good.
I’m way behind on every project. Point in fact I’m letting a lot of personal projects slide because I have other things getting in the way.
I’m so damn tired right now...
I stayed up last night putting together a Windows XP system for my own use at home. This whole “one car family” thing is throwing my schedule off something fierce. As soon as I can get back to my previous schedule things will improve again but right now it’s damn hard to get things done. I can’t get to work early enough and I can’t get home early enough to get the same amount of things done that I was getting done before. It’s no one’s fault but mine but it’s still very annoying and is making things pretty damn tough in some cases. It’s tiring me out so I don’t have the energy to get things done when I finally _do_ get home. *sigh*
I think I’m going to mow the lawn when I get home tonight then go right to sleep...
