1. Upon entry into my thesis meeting, Jay first announced his dissatisfaction with the third chapter I'd turned in. Understandable. "What role do you want this chapter to play in your thesis?" he asked. I said things that didn't make sense, very quickly. He was like, "Chill." I was unable to chill. He was like, "No, really." I was like, "Um. I just came from a meeting with [A Professor] in which I tried to convince her not to give me a really shitty grade by convincing her that I Am Trying, Dammit." He was like, "Oh. Right. Do you want a few minutes to compose yourself?" I was like, "No. Here is the role I want this chapter to play in my thesis," and commenced again to not making sense at great speeds. He gave me a look, asked me if I was SURE I didn't want a minute to compose myself, and on being told that I was FINE, told me that I was NOT fine, that I DID want a minute to compose myself, and escorted me to the Paradox Lost, where he bought me a latte and we talked about pets. He has a Siamese. I like Alise's dog. I mentioned that up through this point in my Reed career I have not cried in front of a professor, and I would like to continue that streak for the next month and a half. He was impressed that I've made it this far. We returned to his office, outlined the chapter I will rewrite almost entirely from scratch in a very short period of time, and I left. With my latte.
2. I was standing at the bus stop listening to "The Blues are Still Blue." I dare you to listen to that song and not wiggle around. I just dare you. I certainly can't. So I'm standing at the bus stop, listening, wiggling, trying not to wiggle too obviously. I look up as the light turns green in front of me, and there is a kid in a car, blond, early-teens looking, and he gives me this Very Serious Dancing Face, just bopping away with no music of his own, and he is either making fun of me or genuinely trying to hear the music in my head. Either way, it was awesome, and I grinned at him super-big, and kept grinning for probably ten minutes. He looked so serious.
