*bounces* Glad you're excited! I'm excited as well! I was thinking of playing it quietly and waiting before posting anything (lest I should be forced to abandon the attempt or something equally terrible should happen) but you know I am just too much of an excitable person to do that! :D
(I needed the icon change just as much with my Sim icon! Thank you for saying she is pretty. I love her already ^_^)
As for the story, well I'm trying to entice my brain into coming up with a plot for this coming November (I hope you won't be too surprised; I would just like to practice) and there are a couple of ideas that appeal to me. I thought of using Pernilla's Sim incarnation as a future version of one of the characters, to allow me to get to know her, but... I don't know whether Pernilla has the right personality for it. *ponders* Or perhaps she does, and I need to adapt my idea of the story character to her behaviour. Oh, that would be interesting too. Anyway yes, Pernilla does have a reason for being there, and for starting a legacy. I simply could not do a random throw-away legacy; everything has to make sense! ^_^
Haha, for some reason, I seem to like assigning work to myself. This is the good kind of work, though. But please kick me if I start thinking about the legacy as work and not play! :D Oh, there are so many things I would want in a perfect game (the BV trees spring to mind) ..... but you are right, I cannot complain :) The townie thing will definitely be worth it. I have so many favourite townies now :D
Well I'm glad you did decide to share early on, it's so great to see posts from you! ^_^
This coming November... are you doing NaNoWriMo? Oh that would be fantastic if you were! :D I'd love to see what you come up with. And I can definitely say "ditto" to "everything has to make sense" I'm like that too, most of the time. :P
And your game always looks pretty perfect to me - I'm often extremely jealous of your neighbourhoods in particular and all the thought and effort you put into making them so beautiful and real. Not to mention the detail you go into for townies! No wonder you have so many favourites.
I just had a thought: what about joining the NLC 4/2 over at Sims2Supernova? Unless of course you've already started playing Pernilla, but still!
Also, another random thought: I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain for names in the near future? Your sims always have some of the best ones. :)
Well I must say, the most wonderful part about it is getting lovely comments like this one <3
In fact I am! I signed up last May after following along last year and getting so inspired. It has been bubbling story plots in my brain ever since. Although I admit I am a bit worried about what to do to make the characters come alive. But upon the whole, hell yeah! I can't wait to get started. I am also looking forward to see what my brain will come up with. xD And I'm convinced there will still be time for writing in between studying! There must be!
Oh thank you so much for your compliment on my neighbourhoods!! I do love making the effort to have them make sense too, so I especially appreciate your noticing! ^__^ (I had to force myself to not give the townies much detail and having them somewhat more random, seriously! They're not really as detailed as you think. I just had to have a system for myself to know which face template I'm marrying in :) But I'm also glad I could hold back on documenting every townies trait! Ha.)
I was also thinking about that... (I noticed that you were the first to sign up! Fun times!) I commented on Jenny's LJ post the other day when she was teasing about it, mentioning I was planning a legacy myself, and she replied that I was welcome to join the challenge. Ever so nice! But then when the details were posted, the end date made me bite my lip... I could probably wriggle in writing time, but writing AND simming for a challenge is probably too much to take on my plate in the first semester of an entirely new study. I think there will even be exams held in November, too. So I'd happily post my little legacy updates on the S2S forum too (not that large of a story project; I am considering postcard format), but I am not sure about joining the challenge. Honestly, this new legacy thing of mine is more about the challenge of doing something many people have done before me; a single family, maxis jobs, earning LTWs, happy life. I always used to play cohesive neighbourhoods before it was hip! Now I want to experience this other thing. That, and the genes and generations thing (and the mere thought of an extensive family tree *drool*) are hugely attracting to me.
Um, that turned into a bit of a ramble xD Hope you won't mind!
You're welcome to steal my names! :) Although I'd rather you leave my brain intact, I think I'll need it in November! (sorry /lame joke) I like collecting names and having a theme to them in one neighbourhood. In this case I raided this blog post and this name site for nice and common Swedish names. The last names are fun to mix-and-match. I would be happy to type up my list for you if you are interested -- but that would only give you typically Swedish names, although most work well in an English-speaking society as well. :)
Oh it's exciting - knowing someone else who is going to be doing NaNoWriMo! :D When the time comes you'll have to let me know who you are over there so I can add you (if that's alright of course). What genre are you planning on writing?
I didn't even think about the end date for NLC 4 1/2 being in November... I can definitely see how that would be a problem when you have NaNo, studying AND then trying to keep up with legacy updates at the same time. Oh well, there's always another time. :) At least we'll get to see your legacy updates, however often they may be. And I bet you'll have heaps of fun experiencing a new (kind of) way of playing. I'm sort of doing the opposite, for the same reason (which doesn't make much sense haha). Before I discovered the world of the Sims online I was always making a single person with no cheats allowed and having them meet someone, make a family; watching the generations grow and all that - a legacy, basically, though I didn't know it as such at the time. Now I'd like to try something similar to a BACC, if only to have an excuse to make a pretty neighbourhood! :D
I actually did laugh at your joke, by the way, so perhaps we both have a "lame" sense of humour xD And thanks for the links! I adore Swedish names. And Danish ones, which are rather similar I think. One of my favourite sites is behindthename.com with it's handy lists and meanings. I use that a lot for writing, as well.
Certainly! Let's be buddies. ;) You are nonsensica aren't you? My username over there is catchingrain although it doesn't have anything on it yet other than a picture. As for a genre -- I think my vague ideas classify as science-fiction/fantasy/drama? :D It's got to do with other planets, space astronauts and family relationships. Perhaps even time travelling! I'm not denying the Doctor Who influence, there. >_>
But do you even have time and/or space for writing another NaNo novel? :D From what I can gather by visiting your writing blogs every so often, your break-through novel is really coming along, isn't it? :) Do you already have a theme in mind for NaNoWriMo?
I honestly hope I won't get bored! :D When I do, I'll probably install some more EPs first, to give my poor Sims a bit more to do. But it's also somewhat of an exercise in playing a little quicker; I don't think I've ever come to the third generation, because of my slow pace ^_^ So the Sims really shouldn't be distracted by too many things.
How fun that you're doing the opposite. Oh I really hope you'll build up a BACC-like neighbourhood! Just think of all the adorable Sims running around and interacting in pretty surroundings!
Haha, well in that case I won't be embarrassed by my sense of humour which is sometimes a bit silly and mostly subtle (I love language puns). ;)
I don't know many Danish names but similarity between the two would be logical :) It is actually rather simple for a Dutch-speaking person to understand Swedish, if you've given it a bit of study. The languages are a lot alike.
I think I used behindthename.com before for looking up Celtic names! The meanings and origins they list are so interesting. Browsing around the website just now, I found this page for names "associated with Astronomy and Astrology -- how perfect for naming alien babies! xD
Wonderful! And I am indeed. I've gone ahead and added you. :) Your ideas sound utterly awesome, I cannot wait to see what it turns out to be! I lovelovelove reading science fiction/fantasy with a bit of drama thrown in. And you know I adore Doctor Who aswell... I won't deny that I haven't been influenced either. >_>
I'm actually still in the planning stages of my novel From the Everlasting, so it's still possible that it could be what I write during NaNoWriMo. However there has been another novel idea, tentatively titled Tempus Fugit, involving time travelling Eternal beings from the same universe as From the Everlasting that is brewing in my head. It's about two people: one who cannot remember his past and the girl who tries to help him, ultimately uncovering that she is far more involved than either of them could have known. I'll PM you the synopsis so this comment doesn't get too lengthy; feel free to tell me what you think. ^_^ I'm not entirely sure which one I'll end up writing, but knowing me it'll probably be Tempus Fugit. After so many months researching for From the Everlasting it would seem a shame to rush through it in thirty days. I swear I know more about the Victorian Era than I do this one! xD But perhaps it would be good to properly challenge myself...
Anyway! I think the new way of playing will - hopefully - keep you interested, after all I can definitely understand the lure of one of those awesome, long family trees full of generations. Perhaps as a kind of reward - for your sims and yourself - you could install an EP for each generation you complete?
That's exactly my plan/goal for the BACC. Though I think I'm going to change the rules a bit so that it's more of a BACC and legacy combined: one sim that starts penniless, meets a townie, has children etc, then I'll choose an heir to stay in that house whilst the others move out and begin populating the rest of the hood. Each generation will also bring another new - and unrelated - family to the 'hood, just to keep the genetics side of things interesting. Everything will also follow an Alphabet style, so I can keep track of the generations. I actually think I've told you about this before, so forgive me if I've just repeated myself. xD
I'm sorry if any of that was rambling/didn't make much sense - it's getting late but I really wanted to reply before I went to bed.
Oh, and I've saved that link (to the names associated with Astronomy and Astrology) for future use. Very handy! :)
