They haven’t seen each other since the Hellmouth and all of Sunnydale exploded and Spike died. Even though Xander had known for a longer time that Spike was back he hadn’t come to LA to see him that is until now. Xander had told himself that he couldn’t see that much anyway so why should he bother with the trip when he’ll only see Spike with one eye and without depth reception. But here he was in LA. Almost a year too the date since they’d last saw each other. And apparently there was another apocalypse looming around the corner. Only this time it was in another city and with another team of heroes fighting for the survival of the human race. Angel’s big moment to shine and prove that he hadn’t become evil after taking the job at Wolfram and Hart, Xander had thought.
“So you came.” Spike says, as he sees the dark figure moving through the shadows.
“Yeah, I did. Surprised?” Xander asks, stepping into the dim light in the alley.
“I thought you wanted to forget.” Spike answers, a sad smile around his cigarette.
“I did. Changed my mind. Wanted to see you, too.” Xander looked straight at Spike with his one good eye.
“Bloody perfect timing,” The blond smirks, throwing away the stub.
“You know we could still call Buf…”
“No, don’t bother - not her fight. Or yours.” Spike pushes off the wall he’s been leaning on.
“Not yours either. It’s Angel’s fight. He chose this, Spike. You can still leave.” Xander says, as he follows Spike.
“I’m sorry, Pet. Not that easy. I chose this too. And besides, Angel is family and we’re…”
“You’re together then?” the dark-haired man asks, raising an eyebrow.
“No, not together…we’re family. And even though I can’t stand him most of the time I still need him. He’s a good warrior. One of the best!” Spike turned and looked closely at Xander, almost as if he’s sizing him up.
“If you tell him I said that I’m going to have to kill you.”
“Swear to God, I won’t,” Xander quickly assured putting his hands in the air in a gesture of surrender. “I promise. Don’t want to give deadboy an even bigger ego then he already has.”
“Anyway,”Spike continues tying to cover up the smirk. ”It’s always good to have somebody who knows you, ya know. And besides, you weren’t there.”
“You could have come and looked for me, Spike.”
“Naw…you wouldn’t have wanted that. And it would have ruined my grand exit if I suddenly showed up in Africa running around lookin’ for you.”
“Yeah that’s true… couldn’t have you looking like a caring ‘pouf’. It could seriously harm your reputation as the Big Bad”.
“No, we couldn’t.” Spike returns the smile.
“So…”
“So…?”
“What is it that you really want, ‘Spikey’? I guess it wasn’t to comment on my new eye patch and how good I look in it. Which when I think about you haven’t said a word about.”
“It might be the end of the world, or it probably is. So I’m sorry if I’m not updated on the latest fashion trends, ‘Xan’. I just wanted to see you before…”
“Yeah, so you’ve seen me. Now I have to go.”
“Xander... wait!”
“Spike, I can’t do this. I don’t want to ‘not’ say good-bye again.”
“Then don’t. Just kiss me.” Spike says and grabs a hold the not-so-much-boy’s arm.
“What about Angel?”
“Bugger Angel. I mean literally. He’s off doing some last minute bonding with his son.”
“Son? Angel has a son?” Xander raises both eyebrows which makes the eye patch slide down a bit.
“Apparently. Didn’t know he had it in him. But never mind that. I don’t care about Angel right now, I just…”
“Want to shag my nummy arse six ways from Sunday?” Xander gives a not to shy smile.
“You know me too well, Pet.” Spike smiles back and kisses his boy.
And then he fucks him one last time. Because the world is going to end. And if not the entire world, then maybe just his. Either way, this is the only thing he can do instead of saying good-bye.
