"This is Bod. Sorry to have missed you. Leave a message and I'll either call you back or just come find you. It's a small dorm, it won't be that hard. Bye now."
Boring voicemail or not, it did make him smile and he felt no real need to get out of bed to answer. Instead, he just rolled onto his stomach and propped his phone up so he could return the sentiment.
"You do sound bored," he said sleepily into the phone but definitely awake and alert enough to be precise with his language. "If there was anything I could do to help, I would. I'm still in bed myself. It's warm and comfortable. I don't know if I'll leave."
The harsh words made him laugh into the phone and he, at least, did try and make himself seem a little more awake.
"Why are you consumed with envy?" he wondered lightly. "You don't have a bed there that you can sleep in? I'd offer you a spot in mine but you're not here right now."
"Well I am right across from a furniture store right now," she remarked, gesturing towards the store, rather pointlessly, "but I doubt they'd like it much if I went there and slept. And I've had enough sleep, anyway."
"Mmm. I had a bit of a sleepless uncomfortable weekend. I'm using the excuse of catching up on my sleep to still be in bed right now," he shared, stretching a little. "How are things there besides boring? Is your family well?"
"As well as they ever are." He could make of that whatever her wanted to. "Uncomfortable, huh? Did you get stuck babysitting or were you a kid yourself?"
"I was a child," he told her, sighing quietly. "And slept in the graveyard both nights because that was familiar to me. It wasn't the most comfortable weekend I've ever had. I was fairly lonely because I expected to be able to see ghosts or Silas."
"I'm fine," he said, brushing that aside quickly. Those feelings of the past weekend just made him feel melancholy and he wanted to avoid that right now. "I didn't let it bother me."
A slight lie but a necessary one.
"Have you missed the island?" he asked, curious about the answer. "I'm sure it's missed you."
"What do you miss, then?" he wondered, easily catching the use of language there. He shifted a bit in bed, flopping onto his back and getting comfortable then. "The beach?"
"... Actually, yeah." It wasn't even a lie. "There was this one teen drama, marathoning on TV yesterday, where they live by the ocean. Kinda made me miss that."
It made Bod laugh and he tucked an arm behind his head lazily. "I took a walk down there yesterday on the way back to the dorms. I'm sure the beach misses you too. You'll be back soon enough and then you won't have to miss the beach anymore."
"That's not all I miss," Kate said idly, wandering into an H&M, as he could probably tell by the sudden music in the background. "Anyway, yeah, I'll be back tomorrow."
"I'm sure you'll be able to see everything that you missed tomorrow, then," he said, sliding fingers through his hair and waking up a little more. "Right?'

"Oh. Well, that sounds like it sucked," she said. "But the island doesn't play nice, so no surprise there."

And she still didn't even know you could get hit with the weird even off the island.
