I just have to grin at my horoscope today. In light of my earlier journal entry, I thought it was pretty pertinent:
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You may wish for specific directions, but if the universe were really to thunder from the clouds, 'DO THIS' or 'DO THAT,' you'd defiantly shake your fist, saying, 'Don't tell me what to do! I'll do what I want to!'
I haven't been up to much this week. I helped build a set on Sunday, which is something a little different from my ususal lighting work. I quite enjoyed it, and chatting to other techs was a nice break from sitting around home. It was quite hard work, and I fell asleep shortly after I got home. My muscles spent a couple of days reminding me that I really should exercise more. Other than that, I've just been doing a little light planning for an upcoming show.
After stumbling about on the net I found two old TV shows that I used to love to watch as a kid (when I was around 6 or 8, although the timeframe is a little fuzzy). The first is a show called
Star Fleet (originally known as X-Bomber in Japan). It is a puppetry based show (rather like Thunderbirds or Terrahawks), but has a story arc for the whole series as opposed to being episodic. In addition, the story was quite dark for a children's show. I believe it was an attempt in Japan to produce a show with anime-like storytelling, but not using animation (which was very slowly growing in Japan at the time). I spent years with only vague memories, but then I stumbled across
a website devoted to it, and it brought back all the memories.
The other show was called
The Mysterious Cities of Gold. I don't remember this as well as Star Fleet, but I do remember racing home to watch it every day. This show was about three children in South America who discover lost technologies of Mayans, Inca and Olmecs. It too had a story arc that spanned the whole series, unlike so many other TV shows of the time. I think this would probably be one of the reasons I became interested in the legends of Atlantis, Mu and Lemuria (not to mention conspiracy theories, but I won't go into that now).
For a while I thought that I was only one who remembered those shows. I only remembered bits and pieces, so for a while I though that maybe it was just a figment of my imagination. It is nice to know that I didn't just imagine it, and it was really nice to revisit that (almost lost) part of my childhood. :)
