2006 Summer Log

Jul 10, 2007 18:19

Ok, let's continue last year's log...

August 18th

After leaving Basildon Park, we reached Portsmouth. Let me say, last year I wanted to visit Pride&Prejudice locations... but my dream was to go to Portsmouth.
When I saw the name of the city, I was shaking! And then I saw her, the HMS Victory... I saw her mainmast only, but I was about to cry.
We were so lucky to be able to park the camper in a parking close to the Historic Dockyard. I couldn't wait to much, so I ran outside, and this is what I saw.

It's not the Victory, but the HMS Warrior.

If you read/watched Hornblower saga, this is the famous place where the story began... OMG... *sighs*

This was a gigantic tower.

A little boat... LOL

August 19th

We woke up early (no problem for me, I couldn't sleep!!!), and entered the Historic Dockyards.
The first attraction: HMS Warrior.
This is me reading every notes on the map... XD

-__-# stupid dad... I'm a better sailor even if I don't climb every piece of this ship!!!

The gundeck.

Captain's Cabin

RHUM!!! Or, to be more precisely... GROG!

This is me, imitating Mr Pulling in action. The man beside me was the Captain of the ship. I had no idea he was behind me... doh!
Outside was raining so much he had to close all the hatches, so he appeared from nowhere to close them!

We waited inside untill it stopped raining. It was cool, because I had more time to stay inside the ship!!! Haha!

Then one of my dream came true: HMS Victory.
I had tears, even if my dad and sister thought they were raindrops in my face... :P
The pictures describe themselves...

As soon as we reached the Upperdeck, I ran to the place where Nelson was shot. I was sure I knew exactly where it was placed... and I was right! Dad and Miki weren't surprised... LOL

This is me, listening to an officer telling the story of Nelson's death.

The Gundeck. The ceiling was lower than Warrior's one.

Captain's Cabin

Oh, it's so beautiful... I felt like I had to pray in there!!! I'm crazy... I know... but that is Nelson hat!!! XD

And his uniforms!!! *_*

Near the Victory, there was a little museum dedicated to this sail.
It's the only surviving sail from the Trafalgar Battle. There was a screen on the left, showing Master & Commander!
I was in paradise... XD

This is the HMS Mary Rose. They had to keep it wet because she was found under the sea, and they were still working on her.

The Historic Dockyards are an amazing place to visit. You need an entire day, to visit all the ships and museums, and the time isn't enough. Well, if you are a fan of flag ships you're gonna need more than one day LOL
I wanted to stay there another day, but we had to return home... *sighs*
I watched for the last time Vicotry's mainmast from afar and bid farewell.
