English Textbook

So my not-so-awesome JTE at the deaf school told me when i arrived that the current textbook that the kids had been using for half their academic year was too difficult, so, after first suggesting that i "wing it" (with no idea of the kids' level or what they had already studied), she pulled out an old Geos textbook (adult English school) and told me to pick whatever out of it and teach.

It's the weirdest book. Here are some of the names of the chapters:

The 1st chapter in the entire book (a book she wants me to teach to 14 yr olds) is "I Have a Hangover".

Another chapter is "Why don't you get a part-time job?" (said, in my mind, with a snarky voice and a hint of "you dumb deaf kids, why don't you just go out and make yourselves useful in the workforce!?"

And finally, the mysterious "A car hit an old man on P Street" lesson.

As for the random "western names" they'll throw in there...here are some characters' names:

Rod Richards
Frangs Greenfield
Ana Sri Johns

exqueeze me? FRANGS?? Puh-leeeeeze.
