I got treed by a pig today.
I was walking through the forest, minding my own business, and suddenly I came upon a wild boar. I had been looking up into the trees, trying to get a better look at a sparrow, and when I looked down I was about 15 feet from the beast. It was roughly the size of a loveseat, with shaggy brownish hair and tusks. It had tusks!
Feral pigs generally avoid humans as much as they can, but they've been known to attack if they feel threatened. Most of the incidents involve hunters tracking an injured animal, but a woman in Fort Worth was attacked while jogging. I was NOT in a good situation.
It had its head down, rooting for acorns, and hadn't noticed me yet. I was afraid that if I tried to back away the noise might startle it. There was a tree a few feet from me, a live oak with branches low on the trunk, so I climbed up as quietly as I could and pulled my feet up out of harm's way. The pig kept snuffling around, but it didn't see me.
It took about 10 minutes for it to wander out of sight, and when I couldn't hear it anymore I climbed down and went in the opposite direction.
