I am in a glorious mood this weekend.

Whenever I come to Liverpool for a visit with my best friend Scott, I feel better. By better, I mean that I have what Americans call "a sense of possibility". It's the second year running that I have come here for the weekend after a Moorland New Year. Last time, with Bill, I was on a come down and was slightly rubbish.

I have spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Scott and his fella, Rob. They've been together now for sixteen months and the changes in Scott are lovely; some of his independence has been replaced by a willingness to have Rob look after him. It manifests as a slightly wifey, "you carry this" type of co-dependence, and it's well cute. Rob's going to move into Scott's for a bit to see how it goes, etc. Now that Bill and I are back together, seeing Rob and Scott has made me feel totally squishy and happy. I what houses and kids like RIGHT NOW. Of course, there's a couple of years before house and possibly five before kid, but still...

Friday, we just pottered around town and I bought shoes and DVDs in the sale. I have probably spent enough, but pah. They've done the massive regeneration thing all over Liverpool city centre, so Paradise Street was unrecogniseable to me, dominated as it is by a new shopping centre, L1. I never warm to this sort of retail "mall" architecture, but it's not offensive. Then, we met up with the uniquely brilliant Janice (or Janni, as I believe she is known nowadays). She's had elocution lessons and altered her accent from East London to RP - totally threw me for a bit, but I got used to it. Later on, we had tea and watched comedy and caught up properly; the old best friend comfort started to sink in, though poor Scottness is battling with constant minor illness these days, which is somewhat worrying. I got quite tiddly and had a lovely bedtime conversation with Bilbo where I got Jeremies Paxman and Clarkson muddled up; Jeremy 1 = intelligent, grumpy, but a total dick, Jeremy 2 = just a total dick. You decide.

Saturday, just got better and better; late morning-time involved teas and breakfasting and intense/usual chats about the press demonising social services in the "Baby P" case and the way the positive aspects of government policy are boring to the public and therefore go unknown to most. I got weirdly excited about seeing housemates go into celebrity big brother as I'm (of course) fascinated by La Toya Jackson. I really don't want to want to watch it, and I yet really want to watch it. Gah!

We took a fun trip to see the new developments at the Albert Dock and to visit Tate Liverpool. I really like the look of the new Echo Arena, and realised that I would like to see an arena show after all. Possiby Christina Aguilera if she tours her next record here. Pop slut.

There's a William Blake collection on the ground floor at the mo, so we took that in; Blake's resistance to the dominance of scientific rationalism and insistence on the powers of imagination and spirituality manifest beautifully in his illustrations. A few pieces fascinated me, especially 'The Ghost of a Flea':

I grow weary quickly of religious subjects, though I enjoy the pages from Dante's Inferno.
