(no subject)
My mother and I just had the most amusing banter about Kingdom Hearts. I made the mistake of letting her see my new KH2 manga, (^_^) and she asked me, "What's it about?"
So I replied: "It's about a kid named Roxas, and he's hanging out with his friends during summer vacation and these weird things just keep happening to him."
And she looks at me blankly and says. "It's about who?"
So I told her. "Roxas."
"Spell it."
So I did. And so she laughed at me and told me, "You're pronouncing it wrong. It's not 'Roxas' it's Row-hass." She even rolled her 'r's. "He is from Mehico." She informed me.
"No," I told her. "It's most definitely Roxas." I told her showing her a picture. "Mexcian people's hair doesn't look like that. He's not mexican."
"Sure he is. He's using taco grease to keep it in place."
I laughed and informed her she was racist.
"I am not! You're the racist one for denying poor Row-hass his cultural heritage!"
So I showed her Fuu's name and asked her how she pronounced that. She stares at the page for a while, appalled, then she snatched the book from me. "Who gave this poor boy such a dirty name?"
"That's a girl, mom."
"Who cares? Who names their child F-U?"
So I flipped to a page with DiZ and asked her how to pronounce that. She told me, "He obviously doesn't know how to spell dix." (the french word for ten for all those who don't know.)
So then I showed her the picture of Riku with the little text box that said "???" because every one who hasn't played the game and is relying on the manga doesn't know who he is. And I asked her how to pronounce that. And she said "Quoi?" Look it up, it's french.
And finally I showed her a picture of Axel and asked her. She looked at me like I as an idiot and said. "That's Axel, stupid."
I must say, it was most amusing.
