For some unknown reason, I suddenly thought of my Alicia Keys CD (Songs in A Minor). Realising that I have not put it on my computer or Ipod, I took it out to rip and transfer it. Listening to some of the songs also reminded me of a mind blowing performance that I saw of her at the 2002 Grammy's. That was before the days of You Tube (was there such a thing?? *Gasp*), which explained why I have not looked up a recording of that performance till now.
It was a remix of
'A Women's Worth', which turned a mellow R&B song into a
fiery flamenco in a way I could not have imagined before. She was (and still is) one talented young lady who, unlike other young female R&B musicians, shone in the limelight without shaking her booty or gyrating all over a stage (another reason why that Grammy performance caused such a stir since it was the first time she was seen doing any kind of dancing).
I found it almost hard to believe that performance was back in 2002. The video looked and sounded (and played in my mind) like yesterday. You mean it's been 8 years since I bought that album??
Then I was flipping through my CD folder to look for CDs that I have not ripped into soft copy yet. I ran across this music CD that I burned when I was in university. I don't quite remember what exactly I have in there. The CD was labelled 'Alternative Rock', and all that showed up in iTunes were Track 1, Track 2, Track 3... etc. So I had to play at least the beginning of each track to find out what they were and boy was it a trip down memory lane. They were all the usual suspects of 90s Alternative/Soft Rock bands: Sugar Ray, Aerosmith, Train, Steve Miller Band, Simply Red, Oasis...
And while goggling some of them (I have forgotten the titles to some of the songs on that CD), it turned up related searches, such as Third Eye Blind, Hootie and the Blowfish, Matchbox 20, The Goo Goo Dolls...
I'm feeling all nostalgic now :)
Time to go and get things done before we go out. I have just baked banana bread (had 3 bananas wasting away) and need to slice and put them away. Packing some of that for KF and wife who are arriving in a few hours. KF is an old university school mate who is coming to UBC to start his PhD. Andy and I are going to meet them at the airport and give them a hand with luggage etc. I've also packed some household essentials for them to tide them over the first few days in an empty apartment (e.g. toilet roll, dish washing liquid, transit map). We are going to Ikea tomorrow for their big furniture shopping trip..
Edit:
I've just put on Aqua to annoy Andy XD
