There's not too much going on this past week. More reading for my viva. Lots of reading. Trying to refresh my memory of things that I have already read, as well as catch up on contemporary debates and more recent publications. My eyes feel like dropping out and my brain feels scrambled at the end of the day. Still, it's all strangely satisfying, the mental engagement, and the more I read and the more I think, the more confident I feel.
A couple of Andy's friends came over on Saturday for dinner, Andy and Sarah (Shiny). We watched an Eddie Izzard DVD since Sarah's never seen him before. Good laughs of course. I made tomato roast chicken legs and we had chocolate gateau for pudding. Yum.
Lily, who works at the University of Nottingham Shanghai office is here this week. We've gotten close during my time in Shanghai and we've met up when she was here in December 2006. I took her to the Lincoln Christmas market and we went Christmas shopping. We will be meeting Andy for dinner later in town after work. She said she had no preference for food except not Chinese, which I think is fair enough! I think we'll go to the Slug and Lettuce for some good English gastropub food. I might even remember to flash my 15% discount card.
I've not been updating much in here lately mainly because a lot of my time has been taken up with
Soy & Pepper. I've really been enjoying myself with different ingredients, recipes, techniques, presentation, capturing the cooking process and end product the best I can in pictures and in words. It is a nice creative outlet for me and a new hobby that I really enjoy. I am currently thinking of ways to improve the website, including new categories and ideas for future entries. I've just bought the domain name, given that it's only £5 and if I'm investing so much time and effort in it, it might as well look and sound good. I would love to get a digital SLR too but unless there is a mysterious benefactor out there, I'll have to settle for to gazing wistfully at the
Canon EOS 400D for now.
This blog has been deprived of food pictures for a while, so here are some recent creations posted over at
