Prompt: Sparkling

Admiration in Scarlet

Red is a birthday
To the rest of the world around us.
It is the swish of a dress in full twirl
Under the banal flourescent lights
Of that glorified shed in the park.

Behind my eyelids
Red is the crease of your coat
Over your elbows, your strong arms
That will never go around my waist
And never pull me close in a dance.

In our saga, red was never just a hue
It is my lifeblood and your banner.
It is you, who never sparkled
In a reflection and facsimile of light.
No----not you, true illumination.

You went to my head and stayed there
More potent than the wine that danced on my tongue
The party's toast to the occasion
Yet our secret salute
To the world you brought me to.
